http://www.al.com/news/birming...ml#incart_river_home A woman is charged for shooting at a man who was killed just hours later.
Birmingham police on Wednesday charged 30-year-old Jamanda Holiday with attempted murder. Authorities said she fired on Willie James Burrell, who was shot at Friday afternoon and then shot and killed Friday night.
Burrell, a convicted felon, was shot in September by Birmingham police during a foot chase. He survived that shooting.
West Precinct officers responded about 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, to the 2300 block of Cullman Avenue on a report of a man down in the roadway. When they arrived, they found Burrell lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced Burrell dead on the scene.
Investigators learned that Burrell and a woman - later identified as Holiday -had been in an altercation earlier Friday. The woman fired shots at him, and then fled the area. At that time, Burrell wasn't injured.
Later in the evening, about the time Burrell was killed, shots were heard coming from the street. Those were the shots that killed the victim. Investigators were able to identify Holiday as a person of interest and took her into custody.
Police said Burrell and Holiday allegedly had a history involving an incident with a member of the suspect's family. Birmingham police spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards said Wednesday that Holiday has not been charged in Burrell's death, but the investigation is ongoing.
Holiday is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $70,000.
Burrell was previously wounded by gunfire during a Sept. 8 encounter with Birmingham police. That shooting happened just after 4:30 p.m. that Thursday in Birmingham's Gate City neighborhood. Police received a call about an armed man near the intersection of Joppa Court and Georgia Road. There was a crowd outside - including numerous young children - and the suspect was spewing vulgarities, Edwards said at the time.
Officers began to chase the suspect and an officer's gun discharged, wounding Burrell. An officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries - cuts and bruises - but was OK. Burrell had been convicted the year before on third-degree burglary and sentenced to 15 years with one year to serve. He also had previous convictions for escape and theft of property.

Kenpoist"Officers began to chase the suspect and an officer's gun discharged"
I don't know if it's a good thing that they're phrasing this in the passive form or not.

He served just one year of a 15 year term?
Mr Burrell would have been better off in jail....and alive.

Its called suspended sentence. Basically, if you screw up your probation (which he would have), you automatically go back to prison for the remainder of your sentence.
