I was somewhat hesitant to post this story, as the full background information has not been released and the video from WGN is CLEARLY biased. The printed story seems OK. I am hoping some of our Chicago LEOs are able to provide additional information. The story was updated from earlier indicating suspected gang affiliations and narcotics found in the house. Some of the Twitter comments are funny, such as maybe they ALL had FOID cards and the weapons had to be returned. Here is the printed story: CHICAGO — Dozens of weapons were recovered during a raid on the city's West Side. Chicago police tweeted photos Friday morning from the raid. Anthony Guglielmi ✔ @AJGuglielmi Breaking from Overnight - 10th District @ChicagoCAPS10 conduct raid on a residence in the 4300 blk of Cullerton where 60 guns have been recovered. 2 are currently in police custody for questioning & investigation is ongoing. Federal partners will be briefed on the investigation According to officers, 60 guns were recovered from a home near Cullerton Street and Kildare Avenue in West Lawndale. Police found semi-automatic hand guns, a revolver, AK-47s, drum magazines holding 60 high-caliber rounds, boxes of ammunition, bullet-proof vests, illegal narcotics and more inside the home. Two people, believed to be a father and son, have been taken into custody, but no charges have been filed yet. Captain Gil Calderon said the men are believed to have gang affiliations. Neighbors said they are stunned to hear the news. "Friendly, always responsive, always waving at you, coming in and out, working hard," Andrei Bryant, neighbor, said. More than 500 weapons have been seized by police so far in 2019. Police say the investigation is still ongoing. LINK: https://wgntv.com/2019/08/16/6...chicago-police-raid/

From the Babylon Bee (satire) Shooter Walks Free As Police Tackle, Arrest AR-15 LOS ANGELES, CA—There was an attempted shooting earlier today but luckily, the police were close by. They managed to tackle the shooter's AR-15 to the floor. They pinned it to the ground and kicked it a few times for good measure, though it did not appear to be resisting arrest. Bewildered, the shooter shrugged and slowly backed away. "Honestly I was kinda hoping to make a name for myself," he told reporters later. "But they just blamed the gun. So... well, I guess I won't be famous after all." "At this point, we aren't looking for any further suspects," an FBI official told reporters as the AR-15 was read its rights and hauled away in the back of a police cruiser. "It seems the AR-15 acted entirely of its own volition, without any human operator who might have behavioral or mental issues." "The weapon is obviously a menace that needs to be locked up to prevent any further harm," he added. According to CDC mortality statistics, of the tens of thousands of gun deaths each year, up to 75% are caused by a rogue assault rifle, shotgun, or handgun acting on its own. "It's a huge problem that needs to be handled better through addressing the mental problems these types of guns might have well before they act out," a CDC official said. "It's 3 pm. Do you know where your assault rifle is?" he cautioned. The assault rifle has been charged with several counts of murder, assault, and domestic terrorism, and will be tried as an adult, sources confirmed. At publishing time, the shooter had decided not to use a gun for his next mass attack so that he will get full credit for it. Not enough information to know what is going on. Could be bad dudes, could be innocents caught up in overreaching anti-gun statutes. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

ZS, One phone call revealed they were high ranking gang members, and had a beautiful background including multiple felony arrests and convictions. The kind of people that are responsible for much of the gang violence in that part of the City. Lord forbid the local news ever puts out anything condemning or slanted AGAINST gangs here... ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. By using the term "recovered", do they mean that the weapons were stolen? Regards, arlen ====================== Some days, it's just not worth the effort of chewing through the leather straps. ======================

Seems like CPD did the right thing. Felons with guns 1...1000 take them all. Good job CPD.

So if these were some "bad guys" with all these guns what gun law in the world would get those guns or their intended use off the street? Gun laws only persecute the "good guys".

I think the point is, if these guys are known, documented, "bad guys", existing gun laws should have prevented their acquisition of 60 or so guns. Thus, what new gun laws would prevent that, and hence the conclusion that gun laws only burden the law abiding. But until it's released that these guys were felons, there's no way to know if these guys were able to legally acquire or not. Criminals don't follow laws, that is what makes them criminals by definition. The poster is mixing apples and Volkswagons. Not even similar, or relevant issues to the issue at hand. New "common sense" gun safety laws do nothing to deter crime. The same people who believe that they do are the same type that pour out an entire bag of dog food, then tell the dog to only eat so much per day. They are then bewildered when the dog eats the entire bag and throws up all over the house. But, the odd statement made by the poster, either by poor phrasing, or a general lack of education on law enforcement meshing two issues that has nothing to do with one another except both are legal issues. Charging people in these cases with being an armed career criminal in federal court holds a 20 year minimum, and a life sentence max. To which they serve just about all of whatever they get. I think it is very effective. Gun laws currently on the books don't only "persecute" "good guys". Matter of fact, it is just the opposite. I charge state and federal stuff weekly, and all have long histories of violence, guns, dope and whatnot. Each time there is a mass shooting, there is an outcry to "enforce the laws on the books". That is what CPD is doing as it seems. I'm completely good with it. Asking what new law would prevent that (if that is what the poster was actually trying to do) is rhetorical at best.
