Did you get your summer projects done?

I’m running behind on my biggest summer project, mostly because... lazy... LOL!

Daughters fixer upper house. 2600 sq. foot house. This old house has been added on to four times… 14 corners! There is not a straight or level place on the entire house. It will be far from perfect but will look OK from the road.
I have to finish the overhang re-work… then cover it with vinyl and metal. Wrap the window and door trim, patch any broken asbestos shingles and paint the house along with several odd and ends. I fear cold weather is catching me fast! I need to get off my butt...

Oh, and it's a keeper... for now at least, not flipping it. Her home and she has half paid for in 5 years.

Two projects still on the ToDo list, one of which is pretty much out of my control.

Big worries were done:

Septic pumped out, examined and given the All Clear. We were sweating bullets over that one, braced for a complete replacement and spending Big Bux.

Used the money we had stashed and didn't need to spend to re-shingle the North slope of the roof and have the chimney re-topped. Also had a leaky roof window removed and the roof sealed over the hole.

Got two of the four doors on the garage re-trimmed and re-sealed. Want to get the other two but might have to wait until Spring for that. About $400 per door for materials (PVC lumber and seals) but time is the biggest issue.

Two remaining projects that I'm antsy to get done before Winter.

One is to put a traditional window in the upstairs bath where the roof window was removed. Awful dark up there. Materials on-hand, waiting on Grandson to have a day off so he can come down and give me a hand. Maybe tomorrow, waiting to hear if his Boss got the equipment repaired. If so, he has to work, if not...

The other is to get a dead tree removed from the North yard. I'm not enough of a tree guy to drop it myself without tearing something up. I have a guy that has me on his list, hoping he gets here before snow. Once he gets it on the ground, I'll take care of cutting it up and disposing of the carcass.

Yep, both naps. Morning and afternoon. Everyday. I did have a few interruptions, and I don't forgive those that did it.

I don’t have summer projects because I like to enjoy my summer. Winter projects on the other hand....

Living in Houston, I try not to do projects during June, July and August. I'll grudgingly do projects in May and September. Ultimately, my goal is to do outdoor projects October through April.

After it already got hot and humid, I found a few fence posts with damage and deferred to cooler weather, but the fence decided to start leaning a few weeks back. I got it fixed last weekend.

Everything planned for and budgeted for that is weather dependent. Kitchen counter tops and backsplash hopefully in next few weeks.

I got a lot done, but I'd scratch off one and two or three more would pop up (wife is retired now Razz) . I'm determined to get them all done so I can relax...maybe for a week, before the list reappears.

10 days ago, we were in the 70’s. Now we have 5” of snow and a high of 32°. Luckily I have all my outdoor work done except draining and winterizing my hot tub, sweeping leaves and mowing the grass a final time. Can’t sweep or mow with snow on the ground....and many of the leaves are still hanging on the trees. Maybe it will warm up before July.

This summer went by like a flash and multi tasking is detrimental to my well being. So no, I did not get anything done this summer, spring or fall.
Gonna be a long winter.

Actually quite a few of them. Cleaned out a corner of the back yard that was overgrown. Putting in gutter guards at present, weather and part time work schedule kind of slows that down.

Finally reblued a pre-war Winchester, not perfect but good for a first time cold bluing. Did some work on my 67 Pontiac, all minor. Tore the '82 Harley down for paint, this got delayed, my painter was in a car crash. Didn't get to work on the unfinished project car, maybe next year. Lot of small jobs done, rebuild the deck on the lawn tractor, replace some light fixtures and boards on the deck.

On the to-do list, clean the basement workshop up. Next year have the back yard fence expanded to use some of the newly cleared back corner of the yard. Replace three of the builder installed vinyl windows with Andersons next year, the originals are 26 years old. Hope to have the '82 Harley painted by spring and next year to tackle the project car in the garage that needs wiring, cooling system and exhaust.

And I did squeeze in one off road club event this summer up north!
