Seriously I don't use any additional undercoating or rustproofing because the spray on stuff that solidifies can cause bigger problems. GM had issues with vibration at highway speeds on Blazers that no one could figure out. Wheels, tires, brakes, etc. Turned out it was undercoating sprayed onto one side of the drive shaft that caused an imbalance. Former boss had a fender rust out from the inside because the rust proofing plugged all the drain holes and it filled up with salty water from snow in the winter.

So anything oil based that leaves a film but no thickness of material would be a good idea. Rust preventatives used in shipping of industrial products such as BioCorr or Castrol Rustilo might work too, and probably cheaper than anything marketed for the specific purpose of undercoating vehicles.

None of the products/applications are a solidifying undercoating.
They stay fluid.

They are essentially what you are referring to in your last sentence.

Got it. I guess I've seen it in action a year later... last week, for example, and perfect condition. [But whatever] you're most comfortable with.

So perhaps it's a bit more long-lived than that for which some give it credit?

Why wait, one could also suggest that with nicer weather, it's not snowing it might be a good time to get it coated,

I just don't see the product deteriorating between April and October. Either it lasts a year or it doesn't and if you want the car protected, hit it now, let it start working it's way in, protect from the humidity and rainy weather during the summer, and then hit it again before winter if you think it's necessary.

They have FAQ's on Krowns web page, of course they tell you to get it done now and that it doesn't make a difference, maybe it doesn't.

The amount of rain we get certainly will deteriorate it. Not completely but will deteriorate it.

Water alone is not the issue. You want your strongest barrier to be against the road salt and salt brine solutions used these days.
So October/November here granted varies by General first snowfall.

Like I said we get lots of rain here and I off-road which includes a lot of water crossings. So spring and summer I am constantly power washing the under carriage. So it will certainly be deteriorated come winter which is the harshest time here.
I spray my suspension with Eezox after each off-road cleaning to help keep mud from building up on the suspension and protect from corrosion.

I don’t have a dedicated Krown applicator close. My applicator is an off-road shop and uses WoolWax which is a very similar product.
He will certainly apply it anytime you want and pay him for it but he strongly advises folks get it done in the fall as opposed to other times of the year.

Not going to hurt by doing it now it is just arguably not going to work as well.

I always think of the Coen Brothers...

Yah, but that TruCoat...

I said I didn't want any TruCoat.

Yah, but I'm saying, that TruCoat, you don't get it, you get oxidation problems.

You're sitting there talking in circles like we didn't go over this already.

Tacomas have known rust problems esp. here in the mid-atlantic where they really make it rain the new highly corrosive brine spray on the roads. I periodically use Corrosion-X (Spray cans) on the underside do maint. Really can see the effects of the brine and protection Corrosion-x offers on the steel areas...

Funny story, ~2 weeks ago I was doing some spring PM and hosed/wiped down ~ 1/2 the underside... Couple days later I take it in the shop for tire rebalancing and state inspection... the guy calls me in the shop and says he thinks I have a power steering leak and will have to fail me because he sees oily substance on the bottom side... but could not see an actual leak... but it was yellow/orange not red... I explained the deal and he passed me... But I don't think he was too happy about the mess (LOL).

The stuff is a little messy for a few days and does collect dirt/dust. But pretty much dries in a week or so (I don't spray it too heavy, and wipe as I go). I found corrosion-x a little more expensive than Fluid Film but different (Less) smelly and "Drier"

FWIW: Next go around I am going to try the black cosmoline in spray cans off Amazon
