Tastes more like rabbit. I prefer, lightly floured, pan fried with country gravy from drippings and mashed potatoes. Biggest deal with woodchucks is making sure to remove all scent glands during processing.

They are probably like opossum or raccoon and will require the "boiling of 3 waters" to get all the excess drippings out. Big Grin

I have been delivering to this town for 14 years. The town is quite a tourist attraction year round, but it is amazing on Feb 2nd.

My wife and I are in the Punxsy area for the festivities this week. Saw Phil get inducted into the Meteorologist Hall of Fame yesterday. Paraphrasing his acceptance speech as translated by a member of the Inner Circle: “It’s about time! I’ve been predicting the weather for over a hundred years, and my accuracy percentage is way, way better than anyone else’s here.” When Phil was thanking his wife Phyllis (who wasn’t present) for all her support over the years, I whispered in my wife’s ear that she was probably at home, making him a sandwich. Wouldn’t surprise me if you can hear her snorting on the tape, we were behind the WJAC Channel 6 News camera at the time and he was recording.

We’ll be getting up in a couple minutes for the trip back into town, then catching a shuttle bus up to Gobbler’s Knob to hear the prognosticator of prognosticators in person. We’ll be the ones wearing groundhog hats and t-shirts that say “No Spring For You!”

My grandfather-in-law was President of the Groundhog Club in Punxy in the 70s. He owned a few radio stations and promoted Groundhog Day, and was credited with bringing it to national attention. Here is an article with a picture of him translating Phil’s predictions. https://www.oregonlive.com/lif...o-become-famous.html Phil and Phillis live most of the year at the local library. Phil is taken to his burrow on Gobbler’s Knob sometime the day or two before to assess the weather. On more than one occasion, he has not survived the night and frozen to death, the President having to cover the incident! It’s a quirky side of Pennsylvania mountain country, brought to national attention by a local boy turned promoter and radio “mogul”. Mr. Erhard was a lovely person, and I wish I could have known him better.s

I live relatively close to Punxy, and I can say without a doubt, we will get six more weeks of winter. And then, we will get two more weeks of winter, and then, we will get a few days here and there that each will feel like another week of winter. And then, we will get dandelions instantaneously.

Did you get your forcast from the Amish Farmers Almanac? Big Grin. We need to wait and see what Phil predicts. We've had a very mild winter here in northern Kentucky. Cold at Christmas and so far, about 7 inches of snow. Going into the 50s in the coming week. I hope the remainder of the season is the same. Bring us good news Phil.

I caught the last part of Phil's prediction live on the local news when I got up this morning- Six more weeks of Winter.

General Beauregard Lee would kick Phils ass

The General did NOT see his shadow

According to PolitiFact, Lee has a better track record than Phil.

It's not looking too good for the wood chucks prediction. We were sunny and 67 yesterday. Next 10 days are all 50s and near 70 at mid week. Mildest winter ever. Oh we still gotta get by March so we will see.

I call it winter until this western PA overcast cracks open for good, and the salt and road grit is off the roads. In fact, more that than anything. .

But only after the three weeks of Mud Season.
