I agree one thousand percent and have said this for a very long time. I call property taxes "Existence Taxes". Because that is what they are. Unless you are making money off of a piece of property, there should be no tax on it. Let's say you are a young man who get's married, raises a family and does all the right things. One day when the kids are grown and gone and you are now an old man, your portfolio collapses, your pension fund dries up, your savings are gone, whatever and you find yourself unable to pay that property tax bill. What's going to happen? Eventually the State will come and seize your home, the home that you have lived in most of your adult life, the home that you raised your family in, the home that you and your wife will spend your golden years in. Until they take it away from you because you can't pay a ridiculous and morally wrong tax.

kg5388I just wish they would change the tax refunds to you can’t get more back than you paid in. I know they have kids but that was a choice they made and they should take the responsibility for them.
Pay in $2000 in taxes then your refund should be up to $2000 not $12,000 because you have so many kids

FenrisWell...
I want to encourage young people to have kids, because I need those kids working and paying taxes so I'll get Social Security when I'm 98 years old.

Buying property is paying for the right to to pay the government every year for the rest of your life.
School tax... talk about wasteful spending. 76% of the property tax on my home is school tax.
(I own a vacant piece of property elsewhere in the state, 75% of my property tax there is school tax. I get almost nothing for my taxes there, once a year they grade the dirt road, that's it. But if my trees want to enroll in school, they can.)

shovelheadRetirees working part time should be addressed also. from the SS website, how your monthly retirement benefit is carried at.
Calculate your average indexed monthly earnings during the 35 years in which you earned the most.
As I now work for a lower rate and number of hours my post retirement income will not be anywhere near my top earning years so no recalculation and increased monthly benefit as a result. So I’m now paying SS taxes on income that I will not reap any additional monetary benefit from in the future.
So in a way I suppose you can consider that part a Ponzi Scheme, instead of new investors paying old investors I’m paying my own newly collected taxes to pay me a benefit on what I earned prior to retirement. Makes perfect sense to somebody.
