Ever made 'Shakshuka' for breakfast or dinner? I think I'm going to have to try this. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. And several dogs, because a man with a cat is a woman. Kurt Schlichter

Sounds and looks good. I think I'd add some Italian sausage to it though, being a carnivore. Jim ________________________ "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning" -Catherine Aird

A couple of the recipes for this also include sausage. Sounds like a great addition to me to. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. And several dogs, because a man with a cat is a woman. Kurt Schlichter

Shakshuka makes a delicious dinner. I serve it with a green salad and crusty bread. It’s always a hit here. "Prepared in mind and resources"

Nice post. I have been thinking of making Shakshuka for a few months as one of my favorite breakfast meals is Migas. Here are a few other suggestions for our SF cooking enthusiasts. Some I have made already. Keshi Yena Bak Kut Teh Har Mok Talay Pad Kee Mao Jollof Rice Circassian Chicken Clafoutis Did you make the Shakshuka? I make this dish quite frequently, but, usually have it for dinner. Unlike Israelis, it never is something I make up for breakfast or brunch. I do use chicken sausage, usually chicken chorizo or andouille (sp?) that I get from a local "artisanal" (read local damn hippie sausage maker) . use a bunch of home-grown tomatoes and some heirloom tomatoes( from the same "artisanal" sausage maker). It takes a while for the tomato sauce to thicken up, but, it turns out to be a very tasty and satisfing dish. I took a tupperware of my homemade shakshusa and let the artisanal sausage maker try it, and I was pleasantly surprised at how he complimented me. I serve this dish either with warmed pita bread, or I serve it over some warm quinoa. -Sid If you think you can, YOU WILL!!!!!

Shakshuka is super delicious and pretty easy. I usually make it from a recipe from a cookbook called "Jerusalem: A Cookbook," which is a great cookbook if you are interested in middle eastern food.

Thanks for the FYI on the cookbook. I'm somewhat eclectic when it comes to the recipes I cook, so I'm kinda all over the place. Made a Basque Burnt Cheesecake (Spanish recipe) today for the first time that was insanely good. Will definitely be making that again. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. I decided to give it a try this morning. I didn't have a can of tomatoes or bell pepper, so I went with diced fresh tomatoes from the garden, some diced zuchini from the garden in place of the bell pepper and only 2 eggs. It turned out pretty good, I would have it again! “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

Winner! Great cookbook for ME food, last week I made one of the chicken recipes. Ottolenghi never fails, all his books are solid, Med food is great as the weather gets hot. My favorite is the dish on the cover, great visual, easy and very tasty. Braised eggs w/lamb, tahini & sumac

Will give this a try tomorrow. Thanks for the info. Have several cook books by Ottolenghi, every recipe I have made from these books is a treat!

Try this olive oil, onions, fresh tomatoes (peeled), zucchini, a little parsley, garlic, fresh oregano, and then add eggs to poach. It’s filling, refreshing and very Healy. Part of Greece’s summer diet.

That looks good. Sop it up with some? Flat bread of some kind? The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

In the Ottolenghi recipe, it is served with labneh (thick, strained yogurt), and I think without bread. It is thick enough it doesn't really need it, but it would certainly be good with bread.

Probably good on cous-cous. "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye". The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, pilot and author, lost on mission, July 1944, Med Theatre.

I combined a couple of Shakshuka recipes this morning; added fresh jalapeno & crumbled feta. Other than a little heavy on the cumin, it was delicious! Warm Pita bread on the side, sprinkle with fresh cilantro. Thanks bigdeal!
