I might change the horizontal mounts a bit so the guns sit perfectly level. But other wise it’s ready to go. Got room for a few additional handguns and suppressors I have planned. Overall the system works extremely well. I’m thoroughly satisfied with a 100% customizable system that I don’t have to pay crazy money for.

Mag wall fills up fast. I can store my tupperwares of spare mags elsewhere and still have range mags ready to go. I’m gonna order some proper akro-mils bins as I think they will hold non-uniform mags better and more efficiently.

OP:

I’ve moved the 600# plus safe half a dozen times in the 3 years since I left Korea. Anytime something changes it’s in one house, out the other, vice versa. It got old quick. Even the 300# ammo safe I have is starting to get tiresome.

So I started looking at gun cabinets and gun walls. The prices folks want for these systems like secureit and Gallowtech are crazy for something that’s not overly complex or groundbreaking.

So I went the simple route, after looking into most gun wall systems, I decided my ability to customize with 3D printed mounts would make for the most practical solution. So I purchased some standard Akro-Mills panels for the closet.

Cost was about 1/5 of what “gun wall” companies wanted, and I have the ability to customize my mounts. This little rental house isn’t even for a year so I didn’t bother painting the plywood behind them. I’ll simply unscrew them, load em with household goods, and ship em with me to my next duty station to reinstall. More/replacement panels are readily available and I no longer have to lift more than 20 lbs.

The louvers themselves will easily hold a 9# rifle, such as a Garand, but I prefer using the upper space for magazine storage so I’ll just rest the buttock holder on the floor. The top secured with a little bungee so you t doesn’t move at all.

I’ve got a lot of printing to do in the next week!

ETA: I DID change the door to a keyed lock since I have kids in house.

Pretty cool- I think I’d need a little more wall space though; right now my long guns are piled into my safe so thick I need to take them all out when I need to get to bed e of the deeper ones haha. Think rifle Jenga and you get the idea…

We usually try to get a pretty decent rental for 2-3 year orders, but these rushed 6-8 month orders we had to settle. Especially because of location.

Some things in this house are LAZY!

You and me both. My final retirement property will have a proper gun room. But for now I’ve just got the other side of this wall lol.

Right there with you. Tired of moving my safe around, but I don't even have a closet I can claim, the wife has three quarters of our walk-in, plus the entirety of the guest room closet claimed. I keep thinking I ought to just liquidate all the crap I've "collected" and never shoot, but this isn't the market for that, I'd take it squarely in the ass. Just no great solution for me, currently. I'd love to do a proper gun wall, but I'm not sure if, or how long we'll stay in this house. So tired of moving. May need to build a hidey-hole solution into the office wall or something.

I just counted it up, and my safe has been in four different houses in twelve years.

Probably a more common problem than most would want to admit to. I was going to take a picture for the "What's your most" thread and decided I didn't want to spend the twenty minutes taking everything out and putting everything back in to get at the back of the safe. Great-Grandpa's Parker double remains undisturbed for now.

That's a pretty neat idea. I don't have a secure part of my current house to achieve something like this, but filing it away in my mind for future thought.

I like this. I like it a lot. Tell me more about those 3D printed mounts. I've been considered getting into a 3D printer lately, and this seems like yet another useful application to justify the investment. My safe isn't going anywhere, but this looks like a perfect solution for the overflow space. What are you planning to do for the handguns?

I like those panels a lot, Mr Otto. Where'd you find them?

Your wall plan has me doing some plotting and scheming... Smile

Amazon actually, might be better prices in bulk somewhere but with prime I got free shipping on 18x61” panels so it was pretty good deal.

Looking forward to a 'all finished' pic. That's a clever idea!

13 hours on the 3D printing gets me a little closer to “all finished”.

Finished printing for the rifles. I will make new holders that accommodate the suppressors. Taking them off the rifles seems kinda pointless for storage but we’ll see which direction I go.

Have a few more items to put horizontal like the spare upper but for now it’ll be printing various magazine holders like the one pictured. I store unopened mags in boxes and tupperwares but I’ve got a couple dozen that get used that will fit nicely on the wall for ease of access.

I’ll also print some little bungee balls and get some bungee cord from Amazon to make holders which will secure the rifles to the upper stands.

I ran out of filament a few days ago so I got 40 more pounds coming in tomorrow. Gonna try a few designs for handguns as well, I just hate how much room handguns take up if they aren’t on a peg. I might try a different route to have them take up less space. Will update that later.

Big Grin

We buy a bunch of filament at work. I'm not sure we buy it 40 pounds at a time, though! Cool

I like that wall a lot -- to the point that I'm looking now for a similar panel that's only a foot or so wide. I've got a project in mind....

God bless America.

I am currently using some acro mills tubs for mag storage. They are stacked on shelves, not hanging, but have done a fine job for me so far. The size I have fits a Beretta 92 mag across its width just right and allows me to get somewhere close to 34 mags in 3 layers so far. I have 22 pistol mags, Ruger mostly, in another. Most of my others live in ammo cans.

A Perpetual Disappointment...

I dig the OP's gun wall.

A good friend got lucky when buying a used house. Previous owner had installed a home theater closet between stairway and living room. 3'w x 14'L. He installed a gun wall on half of one 14' wall similar to OP, a solid door, and a deadbolt. He has room for long gun pelican cases, soft cases, guns, ammo, mags, hunting gear, etc.
