Don’t know why but I have always worn shorts at or slightly below my knees except when I played soccer.
Holy crap I never realized how frequently I pull up my shorts to get them above my knees when I am bending, moving, sitting, etc.
I generally wear khaki type shorts with a belt since I am always carrying.
We just got back from Disney and since I could not carry the ol pea shooter I wanted some shorts that were light and did not need a belt since it was going to be balls hot.
I bought a pair of cheap athletic shorts with zippered pockets so I could just toss my phone in the pocket and zip it up.
I am a procrastinator and waited till the last minute so was suck with what the Beals had on the trip. So they were shorter than what I usually wear being a few inches above the knee.
They are so much more comfortable not constantly pulling them like I had become accustomed to.
Also really nice not wearing a belt.
I bought my wife a little flat Fanny pack for the trip. And my 43 fits in it perfectly and is pretty flat and pretty much disappears when worn on the back under the shirt.
Guess I’ll be buying one for myself so I can buy more of these athletic shorts and be comfortable.

Think I need to find a seamstress and have my numerous pairs of khakis shortened a bit.

Above..7" inseam at the most. Sometimes 5". Assuming your asking about casual wear, swimming, or running.

Sports obviously would be different.

Above for me. I'm but 5'8" so long shorts make me look even shorter.

And back in the 60s and 70s, if your cuffs were more than an inch and a half off the ground, you got laughed at.

(although, before that, I wore my blue jeans with cuffs rolled up, white sox and black penny loafers a white t-shirt and a flat top, cuz... astronauts)

10-12" inseam. Hits right at top of knee to mid knee.

I haven't worn shorts since the last gym class in high school.

At the knee. I’m modest and don’t want my pelotas hanging down, exposed to public view.

It varies. I have running shorts, swim trunks, board shorts...

Soccer / running shorts are great, light and comfortable.
