And what is it's intended purpose? The wire clip fastens against the body of the tool, it is aluminum and has a magnet in the tip opposite of the pocket clip. It has 'CRAFTSMAN USA' stamped on it and nothing else. ___________________________________________________________________________ "....imitate the action of the Tiger."

I imagine it's for picking up screws and other small things you accidentally drop into a narrow spot. I had something similar years ago when I was building racecars, the aluminum shaft is so you can get the magnet down into the area you need to access without it sticking to the metal sides of the area. In my case, the tool was longer, to grab things like manifold bolts dropped into the engine bay, yours is for tighter, shallower applications. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

I've got one of those somewhere, minus the pocket clip. Nice little pick-up tool. _____________________________ "A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government." It's obviously a magnetic pickup tool, but what is the (non-pocket) clip for? Is it to stand the tool at an angle for working on small parts?

I'm not sure what the extra clip is for, but it's simply a magnetic pickup tool. The body of the tool is aluminum so in case the object is in, for example, the bottom of a hole, and the surrounding metal is also ferrous, the magnet won't stick to everything on the way down.

I'm curious about this as well, I hope someone can explain it. And thanks for the answers so far. ___________________________________________________________________________ "....imitate the action of the Tiger."

^It's got to be something like that. But with the magnetic end angled down?

Does it unscrew into two pieces? Looks like there's a joint near the middle.

Handy tool for picking up ferrous items. I have one with a sharp carbide scribe on the other end. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

Back in the early 70's a friend was working on his car and dropped a screw in an area that couldn't be reached with his hand, pulled this tool out a grabbed it. I bought one the following week. Not sure about the extra clip as i have never seen on with that.

On eBay, search "Vintage Craftsman Magnetic Pocket Pick Up Tool". You will see many of them. No idea on the clip, either. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. My guess is that the extra clip is used to hold it vertically and use it as a stud finder, "Cedat Fortuna Peritis"
