I’m doing well with .gov services - 13 minutes for a new driver’s license Login/Join

A few weeks ago, Mrs. BB61 renewed her passport in 5 days and mine took about 9 days. Well last week, I made an appointment to renew my DL. From start to finish it took 13 minutes. That included checking in and getting my picture taken, paying for the new license and waiting for my temporary one. As I was walking out the door, I looked at my watch and realized I had walked through the front door 13 minutes earlier.

Now if the lottery was a .gov department.

Do it online and you don’t even have to leave the house. Don’t even have to wear anything. Razz

about the same for me to get a real id,

kinda

I scheduled an appt, early ,
had all my required paperwork, and was early

damn computer system went down, so had to reschedule,

late appt was all that was available, like 430,
figured the worst, got there early just in case,

called up in a minute or 2 of arrival,
clerk ran thru the paperwork in less than a minute
eye test
new pic,
and my temp passed to me,

got the new one in the mail a week later,

in and out in about 15

Sometimes the DMV wants you to have a new photo taken.

I am hoping I am this lucky in a few weeks when I go to get a real ID. I scheduled for the first appointment when they open, have all my documents and vision screen form filled out by my doctor.
Hope it is quick and simple.

I have renewed online for a long while now. There are rumors whirling that TOOL is going to have a residency at the Sphere in Vegas next year. So a flight might be in my future so will go ahead and finally get the real ID but have to do that in person with 300 or so supporting documents.

Meanwhile, I need to get 3 new passports for my kids, and USPS is a mess.
Can't use their site to check for appts, can't call the PO directly to talk to someone [automated 800 number].

Might just have to show up & hope for the best.

Our usual wait is about 40-50 minutes and that is with a scheduled appointment.

I went to get my Real ID and the guy told me that I couldn't use my SS card as one of the documents . It was my old original card that said " Not For Identification " on the bottom . He told me I needed to get a new card because they don't say that anymore. WTFO ...Are you serious ? He would not accept it , case closed .I couldn't believe anybody in that job could be so ignorant.
I went home and got a different document from the list and went to a different office . In and out in just a few minutes .

Here in CA I have to pass a written rules of the road test (some are tricky) and pass a vision test every five years. Hope that’s changed.

I spend 30 minutes a day for two weeks prior reviewing rules of the road. Hope that’s changed. Maybe because I’m a senior driver?

Last time, the lady at the DMV asked me if I wanted to skip the Rules test. Hell yes. But I’d already spent lots of study time.

I’ve only ever made an appointment once, and it was at an office in Corte Madera, which is so fast that the appointment was unnecessary. Unless I’m one of the first in the door at any of the DMV offices in this area, it’s a wait. But to be one of the first means at most 20 minutes.

All of our DMVs are reservation only since COVID. I really hate making a reservation, but I will say the actual process is much quicker than just showing up.
