In my limited Nissan experience, like-for-like, parts were always higher for DIY than Honda & Toyota.

Had a coworker with a 07 Sentra & the window motor/regulator was 2.5x the same part for my 2000 Acura TL.
Briefly had an Infiniti (1996 J30) that shared almost no parts with any other Nissan outside the drivetrain, it was not a cheap car to maintain for a broke college student.

My dad worked for Datsun/Nissan in the 80s & has remarked similar back then as well. IIRC the gold tinted windshield for a Maxima then, was $1k.

I’ve found a couple high mile early series 100’s with 4speed and a late series 80. And a couple LJ’s that seem interesting. Might settle on one of those.

I was happy with my diesel Grand Cherokee but it’s not driven often and it’s getting more and more electrical issues just sitting.

Honestly I’d almost rather find a 4x4 ford truck from the 70’s with a 300. But finding one not rusted out is harder than I thought it would be. I’ve been looking.

My neighbor has a pickup truck for sale cheap. I think $6k. I can ask details. It's nothing nice, but it has new paint and looks good from 20'. If I had the cash, I'd buy it.

4.0L Jeep Cherokee or a Subaru Forster. Both are affordable. Both are reliable, easy to work on and fairly cheap parts, the Jeep will be better for true off roading, but the Subaru Forster isn't terrible.

That's my picks.

Great suggestions given.

Land Cruiser
Tacoma
4Runner

Hard to go wrong with a Toyota product. They are the most reliable mfr on the planet imo.

The OG Ridgeline is pretty damn good too. I owned one and have the 2nd gen currently. Love the damn things.
