I take my lieutenant promotional exam today, again.

JR78I take my lieutenant promotional exam today, again.
Not to worry, I took it twice also. First time as a beta test, got spanked hard, then the second time scored in 98th percentile. Good luck, you're one step closer to true command and everything (good and bad) that comes with it.

yaniciWell, you could say that you're an American Indian, maybe a Cherokee. It worked for my Senator, Liz Warren.
Really though, best of luck in whichever way it goes.

BennerP220Thank you, everyone! I don’t know how but I passed the test.
I can decline the promotion when/if offered but I doubt I will.
I really appreciate everyone’s thoughts and we’ll wishes.

chongosuerteI will say, be careful what you wish for.
With my promotion to Lieutenant I went salaried and lost $25,000 worth of overtime. Working the same hours for less pay.
And every single other change, if I explained, would sound like a demotion. It’s crazy.
Giving up a GOOD/SPECIALIZED sergeant position for an average lieutenant position can really suck. It will take me years to bridge the gap, if I ever can.
So I wish you luck…I think lol

Word. I experienced the same thing about 10 years ago.
Being salaried is just one of the joys of being The Brass.

HK AgCongratulations BP220!
Pray first about the decision you need to make, ask for help and guidance.
Do next what you feel is God's plan for you.
Continue to be a good leader and example to your men in either capacity you choose. We need good leaders, thank you for serving us as a police officer.

yaniciCongrats on the promotion. If I were you I'd take it just because down the road in the not too distant future that pension increase will be nice to have.

All depends on how your retirement is calculated - some areas don't count overtime. In that case, the increased base will count for more.
In any case, congratulations on passing the test.

BennerP220Thank you, everyone. I won’t be salaried as a lieutenant. If I were ever appointed Major or Chief Deputy then I’d be salaried with my agency. I would still get overtime and shift differential as a lieutenant.

selogicJust curious . Is your retirement formula figured on your bae pay , or does OT factor in ? I'm talking about at your present position .
April 07, 2023, 10:18 AM
BennerP220It is calculated on my highest paid three years including overtime.

Ahhhh…in that case, hell yeah!
Our retirement is highest 4 consecutive years. Overtime counts.
With the salaried thing, I won’t top my high 4 sergeant years for at least another 6+ years, assuming additional promotions. Nuts.
