Considering a compact SUV. Asked a friend about their GMC Terrain. Glowing review and I was considering the Equinox too. I have a few deal breakers when it comes to owning vehicles. 1. CVT transmission. Toyota V6 motor. And, 3 burying the battery under a whole bunch of shit you have to take apart to get to. Scratch GMC so I look at Ford Escape. You have to remove both wipers and 15 bolts later you finally get to the battery. What in the damn hell are these automotive engineers thinking? Looked at an Edge. Only two bolts and one hose clamp to remove the air filter cover. Okay annoying but I can handle that, and the RAV4 battery up top to begin with. Who has an Edge and how do you like it?

Check out Mazda. I'm a convert.
Bought a CX-5 six years ago: I liked it so much I bought a CX-3 the next year.
Next year, I'll be buying a replacement for the CX-5 before I retire and I'll be getting either another CX-5 or a CX-30.
They drive and handle very well, and maintenance has been standard and minimal.

My daughter with two kids had a Terrain for a few years and loved it but it was surprisingly small inside and she wanted something a tad bigger. She sold it this summer and bought a very low milage Infinity Q-something.

All wheel drive, 3rd row seats, maxed out options... she got a good deal on it and really loves it so far. And it's still not huge either.

Something a tad bigger is why I took a look at the Edge.

mazda cx5. normally aspirated and automatic transmission. the rav 4 is also normally aspirated and auto trans with a 4 cylider motor.
what's the problem with the toyota v6?

Everyone I know that owns one complain that for the mileage they get they might as well have the V8. The Edge turbo charged v6 gets better mileage.

Wife had on '08 Edge that we kept until about 145k miles. Just regular maintenance and that was about it. Traded it on a '17 Edge and so far so good.

I don't own an Edge, but have gotten many as rental vehicles for 2 hour + one way rentals. I liked the way they drive and were my preferred choice.

Got my wife a 17 Edge a couple of years ago. She loves it and I have been impressed. No problems so far.

We bought my wife a CX-5 back in 2015 and it's been a good car. My only real complaints are the that the sporty seats are too firm and the thing's underpowered. However, I understand that at least the second item has been improved in more recent years' models. Definitely worth a look.

When we were shopping, we did not like driving the CR-V or the RAV4 which we rented.
I did like driving the Mazda CX-5 quite a lot; I’ve also rented a CX-9 and enjoyed driving that.
The CX-5 is now available with a turbo engine, but you would probably have to buy new to get that.
Ended up getting an Accord though because still prefer driving a sedan.

I drove an Edge Sport when I was looking at getting out of my F150.
My F150 had the same 2.7 TTV6 but was RWD.
The Edge felt slower & I didn't like how intrusive some of the driver assists were. MPG was pretty similar to the truck due to the AWD I assume.

We've had a few people at work with the first generation Edge, both with the N/A V6 (standard & Sport) & EcoBoost I4. All seemed pretty solid & happy with them. 2 were company cars & replaced off-lease. The 3rd is a personal car (EcoBoost I4) & his is running great.

Member VTail has one (V6 i think) as well, IIRC, but he hasn't been around in a while.

Check out Fuelly.com to find what people are getting real world for fuel economy. All models and years are represented but the more people with any particular model using the app/website the better since it’ll give you a higher sample size.

Curious what you do not like with a Toyota V6? I recently bought my first Toyota and so far I'm impressed.

We thought the Mazda CX5 was the best SUV on the market for the price. It was just a little small for out annual pilgrimage to the warmer state of Florida. The CX9 added a 3rd row seat that we didn't need. Ended up with a Honda Passport Elite. We've owned 3 Mazdas with great success.

The Mazda CX-5 is really the best choice in that segment of the market if you like driving a responsive vehicle.

We have a 2016 and it has been trouble free having made several trips up and down the state

Many owners that I know lament the fuel economy. Its only a couple of mpg's better than the V8. The Minister of Finance is crunching the numbers of possibly going new. Didn't expect that.

Another recommendation for the CX-5 here. We bought a 2015 new, and it's been excellent. Plenty of room and decently sporty. We've had zero problems with it.

There's some sort of adapting tuning thing it does. When my wife was driving it all the time, it felt sluggish when I would take it for a spin. When we parked my Mazda 3 and both started driving the CX-5, it started driving more the way I want it to drive. My wife actually griped about it because she would go to drive it and the throttle was a lot more responsive after I had been in it.

The CX-5 isn't adaptive, however it sounds sort of like you pushed the Sport button
