Anyone know if there is an automotive application transition window tint, and if it's significantly more expensive over traditional tint? Was thinking about this yesterday in the 104* [indicated] heat as we were driving to my brother-in-law's for dinner. Our new [to us] car has untinted windows & it got me wondering if there was a good option for something like this? My Mercedes had pretty dark tinted windows, to the point they were borderline too dark at night. Transition glasses have been a thing for a while, I've seen [and my dad has] a transition visor on his motorcycle helmet, and I believe there are now transitions contact lenses. Seems like auto window tint would be a good application for something like this. The Enemy's gate is down.

That would be pretty cool, maybe. Not sure if it could be done with a tint/film, or whether it would have to be in the glass itself? At night it would lighten up making it easier to see out, and in sun it would be darker than untinted windows, but maybe not dark enough for some folks’ preferences. Living in AZ, I have my vehicles tinted as dark as the law allows to keep the heat out. Interesting... It does exist; I can’t remember the name of the product, but it exists for automobile applications as well as home/office.

Looks like CoolVu is one of the products. Only 3 shop in Houston do it & only 2 list as an automotive shop. 1 website is all residential/commercial shown. The other is automotive, but across the city. The Enemy's gate is down.

If heat rejection is the goal, you can find some clear window films that reject IR heat pretty well.

A ceramic film in 70 still block a ton of heat. I had 70 put on my rear windows as it already had factory privacy glass. They don’t seem any darker to me but the heat is so much lower in the truck. I have 30 on the front windows. I think I am going to have the windshield done in 70 for even more heat blockage. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. Heat blockage/reduction without being overly dark at night is the main goal. Anyone ever DIY tint? Or is it worth the $ for labor at a shop? The Enemy's gate is down.

I watched a buddy of mine do my Genesis G80. He installs tint for a living. After watching him do it. No way I'd try to DIY. Cutting the tint & heat gun shaping it to each window. Then applying inside with a light mist of baby shampoo & water. Used it to slide it into spot then remove the air bubbles. Plus watching him contort him self for the front & rear windows. Was worth paying him every penny. Train how you intend to Fight Remember - Training is not sparring. Sparring is not fighting. Fighting is not combat.

Also for what it's worth. He does mobile tint. So he drives to his customers and installs at their home or business. Maybe there is something similar near you. Train how you intend to Fight Remember - Training is not sparring. Sparring is not fighting. Fighting is not combat.

Thanks, I assumed it wasn't a simple DIY. Will have look into the mobile option. Would be nice to just get it done without having to sit in a waiting room. The Enemy's gate is down.

I am the biggest DIY attempter you will find and not a chance in the world I’d try tint myself. It’s not expensive for what you get and any installer worth a damn will provide a lifetime warranty. I just had my Tundra done in full ceramic 5 windows done for $250 for lifetime warranty. Back about 14 years ago when I first had ceramic done it cost me $750 7 windows on my Audi. Film has come a long way since then and come way down in price. Granted we are not talking transition film. No clue how expensive that would be and honestly would never want it in a vehicle. I like my windows done at 30. Not too dark at night. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. 70 will have very little darkening effect. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

I wouldn't do it myself. The imperfections are very visible.

I was able to tint a Chevy van. Wasn't too bad save for the concave windows on the back doors. The roll of tint had more than I needed, which was good as I had to redo the side window. Patience is a plus.

70% ceramic is what you want. Pay for the highest rated heat blocking level. It is absolutely worth it. I will never own another vehicle without high grade ceramic tint.
