I bought a Toshiba a couple of years ago and it has been working fine and has some cool features. Dont know how long it will last, but you never do.

The guys came today, more of a mid sized mom & pop operation, not the big box. Maybe next time I’ll hang it myself. I just got a simple G.E., I see reviews are a little mixed. I’ll give it a go, looks fine.

I heard something I didn’t know before, talking to the guys. They said it’s best to let the microwave finish its cycle, or shut it off before opening the door. In other words, don’t use the door opening to shut off the operating microwave?

There are safety switches that will stop the microwave with the door opening, but they can fry over time? I googled it, seems to be at least a bit of a thing?

Am I one of the few that didn’t know this? I often used my door as a shutoff. My last microwave lasted 30 years, but maybe it fried due to my shutoff methods?

Interesting point you bring up.
I have an 18 year old GE microwave.
It stopped working a few years ago. I started checking it out and found the blown fuse inside the unit. Member Glynn863 alluded to this on the previous page in his reply.
Replaced it and it worked until I opened the door before the cycle finished. The fuse blew again.

Started looking at the circuits involved and saw the door switch was in line with the fused circuit.
The connector on the switch was showing evidence of arcing. Squeezed the terminals and seemed good to go.

I do make it a habit now to push the cancel button first if I am stopping the oven prior to completing the cycle.
