Awhile back I asked about a suitable gift for my son when he completes Basic. The "G-Shock" answer was my favorite, but I had some more time to think on it. If he were on active duty, I think that'd be perfect. He might be likely to be in a place/situation where having a cell phone to check the time would be problematic. But he's in the Army National Guard... So I was thinking maybe a good sports watch timer FitBit thingy. Something to keep track of time (whether for his next class, or a patient's pulse or whatever) and handy for helping him keep fit....which is a challenge in the Guard since you're mostly on your own. Not sure what's the rage now. I guess some will plot your run, others can keep track of YOUR vitals? Or maybe just stick with a nice watch. I have a FitBit charge 2 and think that check pulse would not be possible as it does not stay illuminated long enough. when you turn your wrist up to see the digits they only stay illuminated for about 5 seconds on my watch. This may be adjustable for length but I haven't had need for longer display so have not pursued if the feature is changeable.
