It's a regular lob. Just old. Scientists believe that lobsters never stop growing. So the older, the bigger. Four footers have been found, and it's possible that there's even much larger ones.

I would not want to eat something that old. The bioconcentration alone makes me not interested at all.

Do they get sea lice and other parasites like the old halibut that grow 300+ lbs?

That I don't know. We only had the regular size ones in anatomy class.

No.

They are North Atlantic lobsters, but NOT "Maine lobsters". Most likely Canadian caught.
Lobsters can grow quite large, depending on conditions. A friend of mine who fishes has brought up a few that are on top of the trap, too big to fit through the openings. He had to throw them back in.
Maine has very strict sizing rules, anything with a back shell (from eye to end of shell near tail) over 5 inches needs to be thrown back.
Personally, I limit myself to the 2 pounders or less, as I find them to be a bit tougher after that.

It may have been advertised as "Maine Lobster" and it's even possible that you ate it in Maine, but if it was in the last 40 years I can pretty much guarantee it wasn't caught (at least legally) in Maine waters.

All lobstermen carry a gauge with maximum and minimum size scales as measured from the eye socket to the back of the main shell. Too big is just as illegal as too small.

Marine patrol agents check regularly and have absolutely NO sense of humor about it.

EDIT: Oops, should have read the whole thread...
