bendableWhat I didn't know about Pyrex ,
Turns out that PYREX and pyrex are not the same products.
The PYREX (original) by Corning
Sold a bunch of rights to over seas company.
But they have to use lower case pyrex in the name.
It's cheaper by a bunch ,but !
There are many cases that it is shattering under normal kitchen use.
Be careful when making your purchase.

You can tell the old from new by looking at the corners and edges. Clear/yellowish original, blue/green new stuff.

iron chefSame can be said for Corning Ware pyroceram, best known for their white ceramic cookware w/ blue cornflower design.
CorningWare made after c. 2000 is not the same and not as good as vintage Corning Ware. The brand was sold off to World Kitchen. Vintage Corning Ware also used PYREX glass lids/covers. 21st Century Corning Ware uses a different formula borosilicate glass that is less resistant to thermal shock than the original PYREX.

P220 SmudgeI’ve been told by someone who used to cook meth that Corning changed the formulation specifically so that you cannot cook meth in them anymore - the temperatures required shatter the new production stuff. The old stuff is sought after by home meth cooks for this reason. How true this is, I’m not sure, but he was clean long enough and brutally honest about enough unflattering things that I believed him when he said he looked into it and that was the reason.

bertoI blew one up by putting it directly from the oven onto the marble counter. I blew a second one up by using it under the broiler. Guess I should have read the bottom of the dish where it said “don’t use under broiler”. Now I know and no further harm has come to the remaining pieces my mom gave me when I moved out.

xd45manThis makes so much sense. I have the blue tinted baking dishes and I hate them. They are so hard to get clean even when you use a steel scrub. I have been wrongly cursing anything associated with the word pyrex. I've been using the wrong stuff.

IronbuttMy wife's been collecting Pyrex for years, and she has a TON of the stuff. When I built the new kitchen cabinets, they had to be open faced, and well supported, so the Pyrex could be displayed.
She hasn't bought much in the past several years because, 1- People at yard sales & flea markets have found out that it's collectable, so the prices have skyrocketed. And 2- She doesn't need any more of the stuff.

mine, early 70's stuff. (what was
ours from my childhood)
Like everything else "rare" and "collectable", some people have lost their minds, asking $2k-3k for the cornflower bowls.

41I have some of the old stuff that my Aunt gave me. Then, some time later, she wanted it back. So I figured someone in the family remembered that soup/gravy bowl and put her up to it. Nope...haven't seen it.

But they did pull a fast one and got the whole family farm which should have been divided amoungst the living families.
