Yep, I've had that ATT plan for almost 2 years now and it has been great. Pay once a year and done.

And so it goes...

1. I live along the I-30 corridor n East Texas.
2. I can see an AT&T tower from my bedroom window.
3. I don’t care to travel. I don’t even like leaving my property.
4. I need to look into this AT&T prepaid thing.

Thank you all!

^called last night. Rep said it's normally for new activation but they can make exception. IKDR was spot on, she had to look up the 10GB Hotspot to confirm. Postpaid Value Plus is like $55/mth. They are definitely not pushing the prepaid plan as I had to bring it up. Going to store tonight to get the new prepaid SIM card. I wonder if the price gets locked in or will increase every year ( a la Amazon).

I'm considering Boost Mobile at $10/month. Anyone here have any experience w/ them?

Well, after 2 days of calling and getting the lowdown on switching from postpaid to prepaid and almost 2 hours on the phone with ATT at the ATT store tonight, it's done.

Looks like the "unlimited data" is only 16GB per 30 day term. I'll probably survive. I had to use the store phone since the first step is setting up the prepaid account set up and canceling the post paid account-Thus temporarily disconnecting the phone from service. Then transfer to the prepaid department to activate and bill. Went around and around last 2 days. Like nobody had ever done it before and success depends on the rep/s you get.

I second the AT&T prepaid plan. AT&T prepaid (non-unlimited plans) runs at the same prioritization QOS level as their postpaid (level 8). Only the highest postpaid premium unlimited plan runs at level 7. AT&T FirstNet for emergency responders runs at level 6.

Most other AT&T MVNOs run at QOS level 9. AT&T prepaid unlimited also runs at level 9.

The lower the level, the higher the network priority.

Next will be the issue of how long my phone can survive with Android 13 and diminishing security patches. All I know is that my next phone will be much cheaper and simpler as a prepaid.

I love this forum for all the useful information it provides. This was a very "interesting" rabbit hole I went down.

Looking online at the prepaid vs. postpaid industry was eye-opening as the MVNO industry has gone super mainstream (maybe because I became more aware of it now).

The ATT rep didn't have a lot of good things to say about Mint Mobile (expected bias of course). Perhaps feedback from new customers. Makes sense that the major networks have developed their own PP plans under different brands. Unfortunately, customer service appears to still be a nightmare going from post to pre (migration) with the same number for ATT.

I don't really need a pocket supercomputer but a reliable device and long lasting battery will be in my priority. Very happy with my A71 5G to date.
