Looking at getting a new Fridge. Thoughts on the GE and GE Profile lines? Those are the ones I am leaning towards. I know to stay away from Samsung. We have an LG now but it we really want the water discharge. The LG has done us well so might be considering them but it was their oven that caught fire one us.

I haven't bought a fridge in 20 years. The newest one is a Kenmore Elite branded Whirlpool. I'm partial to Whirlpool and believe they are still a recommended brand today.

I have another fridge that's much older than that (not sure how old) - it's an old Hotpoint side by side (w/ ice maker but no water/ice dispense through the door). It's built like a tank and still running strong (it's been in the garage for 20 years (and bought it used) for use as a freezer and keeping drinks cold (wines, extra milk, etc).

I would lean toward the upper end if you can - in my experience, the upper end models tend to last better than lower end (ie - I might favor the GE Profile or Monogram lines over just plain GE). YMMV.

We have an LG barn door type fridge with ice and water dispenser on one side, freezer drawer below, and a door-in-door on the other side for smaller items like tea pitcher, milk jug, butter, etc., so you don't have to open the big door for frequent items. It even makes round ball ice for your cocktails! Everything works great and we like the convenience features. We bought this one at Lowe's last year.

We recently purchased a fridge after some fair amount of research including perusing a recent thread here in which the advice was given and repeated, "don't buy a refrigerator from a cell phone manufacturer." This was to replace a circa 20yo Maytag.

We also had several requirements that made it necessary to narrow down the models, e.g. had to fit our existing recess, no ice maker, etc. We visited several retailers with little success before we found a Whirlpool model that was, essentially, equivalent to our old one. A couple of things we found:

• delivery times on popular configurations (French doors, SxS, etc.) were 6 months to over a year. This was based on salesperson statements, it appears that manufacturers no longer quote estimated delivery times.
  
• interior dimensions/capacity, for a given outside dimension, seem to have shrunk over the past 20 years
  
• products made in Europe, Turkey, etc. seemed to be at least equal in quality to those from classic US manufacturers, and significantly better than those from the far east
  
• interior configurations seem to be less variable and less customizable
  
• same with the controls, rather than separate fridge/freezer controls they are now unified, with three settings rather than six or eight
  
• if you don't want a stainless steel exterior, be prepared to wait even longer, and have far fewer models from which to choose

When our unit was delivered, we transferred food into it, and immediately started getting icing problems in the refrigerator compartment. I learned that in this model, the refrigerator compartment is not cooled/controled separately, it is cooled by passive air vents channeled from the freezer compartment. If these vents are obstructed, icing occurs. No amount of adjusting the thermostat moderates this phenomena. So perhaps as much as a third of both the freezer and refrigerator compartment cannot be utilized. If the wait for a replacement was more predictable, we probably would have returned the unit, and sought another.

I hope the OP's experiences in this effort are better than mine.

I have had a fidgedaire (SP?) gallery for about 9 years, VERY happy with it

Overall, we're happy with the GE French door refrigerator we purchased a little over a year ago. It replaced a 17 year old GE we had (old one is in the basement now). The one minor thing that I find irritating is the water filter - It's got an RFID tag on it and it's proprietary to GE.

We purchased a GE with double doors and freezer drawer on the bottom 7 years ago. So far it has been flawless.

I have owned my Kitchen Aid fridge for the last 14-15 years or so. It is a double door model. When this one gives out, I will replace it with another Kitchen Aid model.

I'm following. I've already been burned with Samsung on a dryer set. I have heard great things about LG though.

I have had a GE Profile french door refrigerator for 12 years now. The plastic covering over the "touchscreen" to select water or ice broke just after the 5 yr extended warranty expired, as did the icemaker. The buttons for water/ice still work, and the icemaker was a DIY repair. The interior lights work about 95% of the time. We just live with thos3 things.

The fridge has been the best of the 4 GE profile appliances we bought at the same time. Washer died after 5.5 years and the dual fuel range has never worked right. Wife hates it

Can’t speak to LG made in the last two years but they had to start offering a 10 year warranty on their compressors because the failure rate on most has been ridiculously high.

Just say no to Samsung and LG French door versions. Total crap. Sad when you have to fix problems yourself because service is miserable and the quality is terrible.

From some of my research I keep seeing GE come up as one of the best brands along with LG. They always seem to be in the top 3. The issues I heard with the GE are that they are loud and the issues withe LG are the ice makers failing.

I’m taking delivery of this Bosch 800 series on 11/22. We’re doing a complete kitchen remodel and replacing the stove & dishwasher with Bosch as well.

The HotPoint appliances being replaced are all original (Harvest Gold) from 1970 and still work! I’m hoping we have similar luck with Bosch.

Wait. What??

Aren’t they now into their second class action over their compressor failures?

We really wanted a BOSCH but they do not have water in the door on the 800 series. They do on their 300 series but the reviews are not that great.

The water dispenser is located on the interior of the door in the 800 series.

Had a GE Profile cabinet-depth, top-freezer for about 18 yrs. Still working when we gave it away because of house remodel. Replaced with Bosch 800, working well about 5 months now. Have 10 yr old Whirlpool top-freezer in basement. Bosch is bottom-frezer/french-door. It has water dispenser on inside fridge wall. No exterior handles on door, which saves about 4 in in depth.

I cleaned/vacuumed the coils and vents once a year.

Here's a thread I started a few months ago. We're very happy with our decision, Fridgidaire, but will say the 26.8 cu ft is big, holds a lot of food/beverage.

Run from anything LG unless you just want to be without a functioning refrigerator for months at a time. After about 15 attempts at repair over 4 years they finally bought mine back last fall. We were without their product for 3-6 months 3 times.
