I always try to keep really good records. But back when I retired I had what I thought were good records of my guns. Up until then, I kept the inventory on a fairly large computer at work. It wasn't a problem as no one else had a clue how to find it. I felt no quilt because I was at work a ton of hours, often just to prevent any major Cluster by the unknowing. But my failure was way back in the mid 2000s, like maybe 2005. I bought a gun at what was then my favorite gun shop. It was a beauty with a 682,000s serial and I was convinced it was an M&P target. With a HBH. I know, they made a few but not a lot. I wanted it and paid about $800 for it. A fair price at the time for what I thought I'd bought. So I'd inspected it a few times and even took it to a gunshow for private viewing by my friend Joe, Begals fan who posts here, and Dave the plumber. Each inspected it and were pleased at the gun and its condition. So how did I pass a K22 off as a 38 M&P? the entire time I was convinced I'd recorded it right. And I've passed on other examples because I was "fat, dumb and happy" that I had a better example. Anyone else done this, and it had eluded their reviews for years? I know, my next step needs to be an entire review and inventory count to find any other UXO. I'm so disgusted I feel like putting a whole bunch up for sale. I could use the money like Shugart should. Maybe I should buy one of the silicone love dolls. He has expensive tastes and compares his deficiency with a Ferrari. Unhappy ammo seeker

A love doll sounds good, but if you had an error of the M&P magnitude, it could be bad for you, real real bad. just sayin is all....

Yeah, you don't want to forget birth control and have a litter of bouncy, inflatable kids running around do you? And if you have hard wood floors think of all the squeeking you'd have to listen to as they ran around barefoot!!! __________________________ Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. I'm not clear or know enough about your passing off a K22 as a 38M&P. But does your K22's serial number on the gun matches the serial number in your record for the 38 M&P? If this counts as a major screw up, in fact if this even makes the "Top 100 In My Life Screwups" then you are doing pretty well. "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation." So maybe one or two of those registered Magnums were 38/44 Outdoorsmans!?! Don't sweat the details - revolvers will soon be worthless anyway. Make a trip to the snowy side of Louisville on Saturday and tell me more about it. GGF

Oh yeah. I've owned it in excess of 10 years and somehow just missed that trivial little point. They both look pretty much the same from the side view. Same basic form factor, just the holes in the places are different. No value difference except maybe the K22 is worth more. I have no legal requirement to keep records at all. Its not like I'm an FFL. Some of those are dumb too. I didn't buy it to shoot, I've got other lesser condition guns for that duty. Unhappy ammo seeker

Sorry, the current plan is different. I'd recruited my oldest son to drive me there, but I'm letting him off the hook. Even David Carroll has acquired cold feet and is staying home. That was the one most important things I was going for. Sure, I love the shows, but I'm letting common sense rule here. Unhappy ammo seeker

Yeah, I can certainly understand thinking a thing is something else for quite a period of time. Then when you realize it, I say, how could I have missed that??? It's like someone played a jedi mind trick on you: "These are not the droids you're looking for." "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. Having done plenty of both, I would call that more of a "silly mistake" than a "really bad screw up." ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”
