Great shrimp, awful busy in the summer, wonderful in the late fall and winter. Occasional snow (once every 2-3 years), terribly high insurance (assume $3,000 to $4,000 annually for a 1500 sq foot, $250,000 house). Close enough to Myrtle to get almost anything you need, far enough away from Wilmington to not have to deal with it.

I think there are 75 golf courses within a 45 minute drive.

County tax rate is .4875, Calabash is .0875, or .575 stacked. Another words, for every 100,000 of assessed value, you pay $575.00. Sales tax rate is 6.75%, the lowest in NC.

Depends on what you love doing. Nosler is exactly correct, busy with tourists driving up from MB and down from Sunset and Ocean Isle for about 3 months of the year. In September and October, crowds are less, but more golfers come to the area. In the winter, the area can get pretty empty and some stores and restaurants close up.

We love the vibe of the area and vacation there often. Headed there in September for a get together with friends. Golf, fishing, boating are obviously major attractions. The beaches nearby are awesome, very wide and gentle slopes. Rare, but do get the occasional hurricane.

Little River, SC, just across the border, is a cool marina area and has several casino ships, if that’s your thing. At least, they used to have them before all the lockdowns.

I never found the area especially great for firearms-related things. There are a few small stores and I think a small range generally close, but you might have to get inland a ways to get any real options.

Tourist season starts in mid May, and ends in mid September (2 weeks before Memorial Day, and 2 weeks after Labor Day).

Owner season (people who live within 3-4 hours and commute on the weekends) starts in April and ends in October.

Specify what a decent distance is?

Look up Low Country Preserve - it is a club. Probably 25 minutes, aside from that you will be driving for well over an hour if you want to shoot long gun, long range.

We fell in love with Clarksville TN. No State income tax. You can buy a NICE home for 200 to 240k. Great gun laws, nice people. Kayaking, hunting, sporting clays.

We escaped California 2 years ago and think it was the best decision we ever made.

We love it here

I like that area too but the worst road system I've seen in a long time with Fort Campbell traffic. I'd love Dover just to be out in the boonies.

My uncle has a place in Varnamtown near Supply/Shallotte/Holden Beach area on Lockwoods Folly inlet. Its a nicde area for fireants, pine trees and sand.
