A teetotaling beer aficionado |
My yearly bill from Allstate for homeowner's insurance went up 43% from last year's (bills end of May) I called them for an explanation and bla bla, house value increased 12% and they raised premiums some obscure calculated amount. No claims in over 9 years. So I'm shopping a bit and USAA's first pass at the quote is only 9% more than my last year's Allstate. So USAA.. anything to worry about? Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves. -D.H. Lawrence

Some report dissatisfaction with USAA, but I've been with them Home and Auto all my adult life. Only had one major claim (water pipe broke while out of town) and they fully covered it. USAA isn't what it use to be in terms of competitive rates, good customer service and covering claims. I haven't had any issues other than they increased my home owners premium because of the age of my roof but I have of others having issues so best to shop around for the best rates before settling on USAA.

Thank you Very little |
Find an independent insurance agent who can shop it across different carriers, offer up coverage analysis, you should do this at least every other year. Sometimes carriers have large claims in areas, and as a result raise rates to cover costs and exposure, recover losses, CA for example the largest insurer there is no longer writing any new HO policies. Some of that is due to the losses and some due to the state requirements for reserves, etc. It pays to shop around, can't say for USAA since we're not military eligible.

I had them for years. Got my roof replaced due to hail/wind damage. They were super easy to deal with for the claim. After that, my homeowners doubled and I moved on the next year to Erie. All the homeowners insurance companies are the same. The more claims they deny the more they make. If they begin to deny legit claims the state insurance commissioner and private attorneys get involved. Often they shape up real quick. My property taxes are low, my homeowners quite high. A number of my friends did without insurance after Katrina and are still ahead. Of course no mortgage on the home.

USAA only people to write a policy for me in FL. So much military here I would be hugely surprised if they pulled out. Their website is insanely frustrating. I like to pay in full for 6 or 12 months depending on policy and they are not user friendly in that regard. Have them for my house, cars and umbrella. Have never filed a claim but also no issues when I phone them. Customer service people all appear to be US based

Excellent advice! I use a great independent agent who shops for quotes every year for me, both for auto and homeowner. She also advises me to check with a couple companies that offer good insurance and sell direct only, such as Amica. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים
