Just for the hell of it |
I like the idea of a knife, watch or the .22. Something that will still be relevant 20+ years from now. I would look at it as getting him something that will remind him of all the adventures, friend and fun he had. That's why I like the idea of an engraved item that does not become obsolete. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Doing my best to shape America's youth |
My Eagle Scout Court of Honor was 12-10-1990. I got quite a few gifts, from cash to Scouting items. The only ones I can readily say I still have and remember are: Silver US Dollar from 1990 from the Asst. Scoutmaster’s family (his son was in my patrol) Lucite cube with the Eagle Scout medal pictured in it NESA Life membership. Most all the rest are long gone. Has he attended the Jamboree/ NOAC/ Philmont/ Sea Base/ Northern Tier base? A trip (or whatever portion you can sponsor) to one of those would be epic, and something remembered. Edit to add: congratulations to the new Eagle, and your family! Clarior Hinc Honos BSA Dad, Cheer Dad

If he's more nerdy than outdoorsy a Surface Pro might fit the bill. They are pricey.

He may not appreciate it now, but a nice shadowbox documenting his many years of involvement would look nice hanging in a future man cave or office. He will surely have lots of great memories from campouts, hiking and service projects. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Sr_Bull,

One of the most important things I've ever received in my life was an Eagle Scout ring. It was given to me by my grandfather. It has since been resized but I still wear it. It's not a daily wear for fear of loss or damage but for business, and events, formal occasions, absolutely. Many (if not all ) of the reasonably priced watches on that list have Swiss or Japanese (or even Chinese) movements in them. That doesn't matter to me, but if you want a real American-made movement it is going to be expensive. I don't know of any moderately priced all American-made movements. There may be one, but I don't know who it is. Watch movements are expensive to manufacture and the Swiss and Asians do it so well already. I would almost always go for a knife for a Boy Scout. I’d see about getting a SpyderCo knife ingraved. Very durable, EDC performance, can last a lifetime and imminently useful.

My Grand Father bought me a knife for my Eagle gift. I still have today. Computer or Tech gear only lasts about 4 years. NRA Life Member

Even if not outdoorsy, I bet he'll still carry a knife. Consider a nice Benchmade ordered direct from them. That will allow you to have it engraved with Troop number, "Eagle Scout", dates, etc. as you think best. They won't do logos that are copyrighted, and 8 years ago that included BSA. Maybe they have an agreement with them now, but even without a nice gift. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02
