2BobTanner50 years ago today: Battle & Seige of Khe Sahn
50 years ago today, the Battle and Seige of the Marine base at Khe Sanh began.
Initially, historians believed it was an attempt by the North Vietnamese to repeat the Battle of Dien Bien Phu against the French; but now it is seen as a diversion by the NVA and the Viet Cong to mask their build-up in the South as a prelude to the Tet Offensive which began 9 Days later.
This is just the first in a stream of events that made 1968 a most momentous year in History.
