I can't find any thread so here goes.
First of all, I never knew this guy was born about a half hour of where I live now, he was from Allentown, PA and graduated from Lehigh University
Anyone from this area is familiar with the famed Yocco's Hot Dogs, I never knew this was Iacocca's family that founded those restaurants and allegedly was because the Pennsylvania Dutch people in the area could not pronounce "Iacocca" and they would say "Yoccos"
He was the Father of the Ford Mustang, and also the Ford Escort and was directly responsible for the concept of the Minivan which saved Chrysler. Pretty cool stuff to read!

64dodgeIt was a great disappointment when he declined to run for POTUS. I believe he'd have done a stellar job.

flashguyRIP, Lee. I have owned 4 Mustangs (3 at the same time) and drove a Pinto for 9 years without mishap.

Not to mention he endorsed Kerry in 2004 and Obozo in 2008. I had a TON of respect for him until then.

If Lee had run for President, I believe he would have won. The man certainly knew how to pull together innovative teams, not just in engineering & design but business as well. Too bad he endorsed Democratic candidates later on.

I recall a not so great Chrysler product Lee had a hand in: The K Car Police Pursuit Model.
He was an actual leader. RIP.

Don't believe he had anything to do with the Corvette, as he didn't work for GM. He may have had a hand in the Viper as he owned the first one ever made, VIN#1.
Someone close to me, owns VIN#2.

HRKIacocca never worked for GM.
He was at Ford, started in district sales office
and rose to President of Ford where he pissed of
Henry Ford and subsequently was fired, after creating
a profit of two billion that year...
Went to Mopar after that..
Mustang, K-Car, Mini Van, Pinto among the successes
under his tenure.
I remember reading his first book years ago....

After Iacocca completed several prototypes of the Ford Carousel, Henry the Deuce said 'There is no market for this type of vehicle.'
Later it was said that Henry ultimately fired Iacocca because he couldn't spell
Iacocca and asked 'What kind of name is that anyway?'.
