tatortoddAbout Time! Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership.
Just saw this from the NRA on FB.
quote:
A group of pro-gun physicians has stepped up to offer a free-market solution for pairing patients with doctors who respect their Second Amendment rights. This week, Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership (DRGO) announced the launch of a new effort,
2Adoc.com, a free service for providers and patients that will allow doctors to voluntarily join a directory of gun friendly service providers in a wide range of medical specialties.
Right now they're just signing up health care providers and in the future will have a patient request form.
Personally, I think this is a great idea.

FenrisI would be surprised if leftists didn't use this as a list of Docs to shame and blame.

Well, of course they will!
So what?
You have to give a damn about what the GDCs think about you before their efforts to "shame and blame" sting at all. There are enough of us 2A supporters here in the culture at large that we can and will negate the hoplophobic nonsense when they try it.
In fact, there are probably enough of us that it will be the hand-wringing "oh-my-god-he-owns-guns" doctors, the ones who aren't on the Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership (DRGO) list, who will feel the economic sting.
Thanks,
Sap

AquabirdYeah all that AMA b.s. is just b.s.
Like the UAW who supports anti gun candidates, most UAW members own guns.
My son in law is a Doctor...I bought him a gun when he graduated from Med school. Hey what better gift for that?
His father is a doctor he has guns, we shoot together once in a while although he lives a ways away.
My old family doctor had no problem with guns.
I went in for a check up at my new family doctors office. He has a sign on his front door, no guns. I had never noticed it until I forgot I had my gun on the day of the check up. He raised my shirt to check my heart and there was my piece. He never said a word, just went on.
My natural Doctor owns a gun.

ScurvyHonestly, it doesn't make much of a difference to me. A doctor is never going to know that I'm a gun owner regardless of his politics.

GT-40DOCThere are a "ton" of pro-2AM MDs in this Country. I know, and shoot with, a good number of them.

ChuckFinleyThis isn't a new organization. May be a new PR effort. They have "retweeted" or whatever, articles of mine.

TBHI cannot believe the amount of times I have been asked "do you feel safe at home?" My response, "you know my wife, right?" Kidding.
But it blows me away doctors and nurses are turning into the home police.

Part of the problem is that asking about this sort of stuff is a checklist on electronic health records. Most physicians would have not any idea what to do if you said no to the safety question.
Most doctors feel pretty strongly about patient confidentiality and protecting patient rights.

FenrisI was in the hospital a few weeks ago with pretty bad food poisoning. They asked, "Do you feel safe at home?" I said, "Except for zombies, sure, but nowhere is safe from zombies."
The nurse looked at me very strangely.

Do not complain when you see a bill for a Psychiatric Consult on your EOB. LOL

Before your time, one Sigforumite opined that the gun question was the doctor's signal that we had entered the inappropriate question portion of the exam so we were free to respond with, "is your wife satisfied after sex?"
I've never had to use it, but it's made me chuckle more than once waiting alone in an exam room for a doc to show up.
