I had an opportunity to play with the new August Lock doorbell/viewer and found it compares well to the Nest product, with a few enhancements.

August is an ASSA ABLOY company, same as Yale, Medeco, Sargent, Mult-T-Lock, ...

Full disclosure>> I work for ASSA ABLOY :-)

Customer service is always busy, takes a few min to reach them if needed... but they’re very helpful and based in the US.
Do you know if the alarm can be configured to sound the siren on the floodlight cam?

How do you get in the beta program? I'm contemplating the while ecosystem, adding alarm, cameras, lights, etc. to the doorbell.

I’m pretty sure it can, I can’t tell you 100% cause I don’t have any exterior Ring lights yet. It is pretty customizable though.

Please, for the love of God, do not hook any kind of alarm system to any kind of outside siren or other noise generator. All they accomplish is to annoy the neighbours.

Side note...I just replaced my “Sky Bell” with a Ring Pro. Installation was a breeze and it’s much snappier than the Sky Bell was. Great integration with my Ring alarm system.

Just installed the Ring Video doorbell 2. An upgrade from the regular video doorbell that has served me well for quite some time. Ring upgraded me for just $20 and agreed to send them my old Ring in. In fact, they sent the video doorbell 2 before even sending my old one back in. I purchased an extra rechargeable battery so when the battery is low I can then just charge a the spare and swap it out, no down time.

I was wondering about the setup and reinstallation of the upgraded one because it's been quite some time since I set up the old one thru the app. The install was a breeze as the previous drilled hole pattern into the masonry construction fit perfectly with the newer frame. I was hoping that no new holes needed to be drilled. Went into my app on my iPhone and went thru the setup and connected to the wifi and my Ring chime I have in the kitchen. Setup was a breeze, everything went quickly and connected to my wifi perfectly.

Images and iPhone notification start recording almost instantaneously when the front door just cracks open, both day and night. Live view even with the doorbell being powered by internal rechargeable battery is within 1-3 seconds if I just want to turn on the camera for a outside view. Motion is set upon approach of about 12-15ft. I can adjust it to a farther approach distance or closer but this is good for me as the camera picks the motion up and I can see the whole person upon approach.

The 1080p view is very clean and sharp. My house faces south with a palm shaded front yard, and about 50-60ft straight shot to the street up the sidewalk to door. The doorbell is under my roof and side garage roof overhang...otherwise I'd have opted for the solar charger too but it wouldn't charge sufficiently in the shade of my roofs overhang.

Video quality is very good and I can see a difference between the old 750p and this one. Even at night when the wife walked up the night vision is good. Overall, just as expected, works as well as the first original Ring doorbell. I haven't yet checked the motion activation on my iPhone away from home but I'd suspect it works just as well as the original one. Audio quality is as expected and the doorbell button activation works fine. Another good product from Ring, very satisfied, especially no wifi connection problems and or unacceptable lag performance wise.

I'll add, this is the view on my MacBook from the Ring camera, same view on my iPhone. In the morning the sun is very bright coming up from the east and hitting the white paint on the garage wall. I'm at the end of the garage wall standing close to the driveway. The door on the right leads into my garage.

Regards, Will G.

George. If I remember correctly, I just called Ring support and asked them if they have some kind of program for this. Maybe I just caught them at the right time but, they did it. I agreed to send them my old standard Ring doorbell and in exchange they took the $20 and sent me the Ring doorbell 2. I've always had great customer support from these folks, one of the few that still value the customer. Call them and ask?

Regards, Will G.
