Much like that "first openly gay football player to declare for the NFL". ESPN and other media gushed all over him for that, not so much about his ability to play.

I don't care what consenting adults want to do, nor does it necessarily need to stay in the closet. But, as gearhound said, it's become a badge of honor, or a qualification that shows you're "progressive".
