You have to ask yourself if the 256 GB SSD is big enough for you. The next available size is 500 GB. Either is not a deal breaker; I have a 500 GB I haven't filled yet, but I also have a 4 TB portable HDD.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

This particular XPS Dell model is very nice (quite a step up from the Inspirons). Maybe one of these might work?

My biggest knock on that particular machine in screen quality. That's a very basic resolution screen at 1366x768. If I have to look into a small laptop screen for extended periods, I want a higher resolution (quality) screen. Hence the reason for the suggestions I made above.

That's how little I know about computers. I know that SSD is solid state drive while the RPM one is the "old" style that spins. In terms of practical every day use, what's the difference?
  • The SSD is MUCH faster. The computer will boot much faster when you turn it on, apps will load faster. This is not a "slight" difference, it is really significant.

  • SSD has no moving parts. Much lower probability of failure, compared to a rotating drive.

  • SSD draws less power, so the computer should have a longer useful run time on battery.
Those are the major points that I can think of, there are probably other benefits as well.

Negatives? Well, there's no free lunch. SSD costs more than a rotating drive. That's about the only drawback that I can think of.

@Edmond, are you looking for a "mobile" type of laptop (portable) or are you looking for a "desktop-replacement"?
