I am wanting a kayak for fishing and just adventuring.
Seem like Hobie reigns supreme with their mirage drive. There is a local used Mirage Compass Duo for like $2200

Any other brands too look at or is it something not even to bother with?

There is the Propel Drive System from Native Watercraft. It is a petal drive system with a propeller style drive that you can petal backwards it go backwards. With the Hobie Mirage drive you have to physically Rotate the unit to go backwards.

We have a Hobie Oasis that is designed for 2. Mirage drive is great. We can travel fast and for fairly long distances without tiring. They are not cheap.

Distance and speed are my main reason. One of my fishing holes is a ways away from the nearest put in (which is a good thing) I’ll need a double so the boys can come along at times.

But they are spendy.

I can easily get a 12-14’ Jon Boat with 8hp Mercury, trolling motor, and trailer for $800 less. But I enjoy the kayak much better.

If you don't want as much of a workout, you could look into a trolling motor and battery setup, or one of the purpose-built small electric boat motor systems like Torqeedo. I see a lot of those kind of setups on fishing forums.

I've also been kind of interested in a Mirage drive kayak (or maybe electric) for fishing, but have almost no time to go right now so haven't done anything about it.

As far as I know, there is nothing comparable to the Hobie in terms of a pedal kayak. That being said I would go the jon boat, trolling motor, motor route as it's a lot more versatile for fishing. You could also purchase a nice Ocean Kayak Malibu II for just normal kayaking for the $800 you saved on the Hobie.

Where are you located? I would like to sell ours this year. Mrs. and I are getting too old and thinking of relocating. We added a sail to ours as well. Ours is about 5 years old and has been in the water 5-6 times.
