I realize that Veterans Day is tomorrow but several places are offering deals over the next few days and I thought some of forum veterans might want to plan their weekend schedule and celebration.

I'm certain that this isn't a comprehensive list and, in some cases, limited by city or region. I'll edit this post as I come across additional links to deals and I'd welcome any other links being posted.

Thank you for your service.

And....cue those jaded few Vets who will stand on their box explaining why they would never accept a discount....yawn....

Happens every year.

Anyway....

If you live in the Minnesota area, Sammy’s Pizza offer a $15 meal to any vet who shows an ID. In reality though, if you claim it, they’ll take care of you. It is the one-and-only freebie I look forward to every year.

Texas de Brazil is doing a free dinner for a vet but you will need reservations. Other guests get 20% off, up to 6.

I don't like big groups and most of the time I will pay the regular price of anything to avoid having to deal with the BS that sales or freebies create.

I guess I'm one of them. I will not accept a discounted meal once a year, while they enforce "No Firearms" signage near the front door the rest of the year.

Well, I'm not jaded, and I'm not above accepting a free or discounted meal, but I don't normally seek them out. Last year, Veteran's Day fell on a Saturday. My wife and I were out shopping and decided to stop for dinner. Applebee's was close, so we stopped there not thinking about their free dinner for vets. It dawned on me when I asked why a bunch of high top tables in the bar area were pushed together, and the hostess said so the vets who were alone could eat in a group.

When we sat down, the waitress asked if either of us was a veteran, and when I said I was, she gave me a special menu. Problem was, I didn't feel like any of the dishes on that menu. Not that there was anything wrong with them, they just weren't what I was in the mood for. When she returned to take our order, I ordered an item off the normal menu. She informed me that it wouldn't be free, and I told her that was fine, and I would gladly pay for it.

The manager came over, and we had a pleasant, somewhat lengthy discussion about my military service and MOS, which led to a discussion of her father's career. When we got our bill, I was surprised to see the manager had discounted my meal by an amount equal to the value of one of the free meals. The discount was returned to our server as an addition to her normal tip.

Yup.

And it seems that the relationship between time served and desire for freebies is inversely proportional, interestingly enough.

Oh well, enjoy your free stuff, if you chose to seek it out.

When I started this thread it was not my intention to start any controversy or offend any of our forum vets.

For those who choose not to partake in the deals offered to those who currently serve or are veterans I certainly respect your desire not to and I thank you for your service. However, I don't see these specials as freebies or unearned handouts, but simply a recognition of those who served and sacrificed. It's just a small way of showing appreciation...and from where I sit they were earned.

It's very nice of the businesses to offer this every year, but don't be misled by the term free.

Most veterans will not be eating alone and are very unlikely to stiff the waitress on the tip.

It is a huge money maker for the businesses and wait staff, not that there is anything wrong with it.

It is a wise business decision.

Around here, Mission BBQ is offering a free meal for vets. I recommend ordering the Back ribs with mac and cheese.

Mission BBQ is STRONGLY pro-vet, every day of the year. I've only eaten at one (College Park MD), but I'm sure they all support our military.

Oh, tomorrow me and some pals are eating for free at Texas Road House.

Most of the time I seem to be working on Vet’s Day. In church last Eve they mentioned Tuscan Grill nearby, 11-11 today. I think a Ranger IPA will go fine with whatever I have.

I’ll be buying two other meals, I’m sure drinks aren’t free. I leave a good tip, and will donate over double the meal savings to Church. The church also has a very active food pantry.

Neither here nor there, but 14 years combined active & Reserve.

First off today is the local gun show with my Son.

I don't seek them out either. It seems around here the only vets that do are about 100 yrs old. More power to them, nothing at Appelbee's is worth a 3 hr wait to me, but I guess they are in no rush Big Grin
