If this comes to fruition I'm going to put in to transfer from the Army. I'm Space Cadre Basic qualified and would love to swap over. Fingers crossed it happens in the next few years so I can have it as an option before I start thinking about retiring.

So, what...are they simply going to merge Air Force Space Command and some parts of NASA?

Notice Trump said it would the the 6th ARMED force, so it's not just a bunch of satellite garbage collectors or traffic cops.

We don't need it. USAF soace is a VERY small part of the whole, and we don't do enough in space to justify a separate force, IMO (and I spent 23 yrs in USAF space jobs).

There are only 4 major 'space bases.' Peterson AFB, Co, Schriever AFS, Co, Vandenberg, Ca, and Patrick, Fl. Add to them a dozen remote sites around the world, and it's STILL a very small force.

Then, I suppose the space force would have to absorb all the Army and Navy space programs. Would those services willingly give up their space missions, too?

Then there is the 'overhead' issue. Space force would need its own uniforms, Basic Training base/personnel, cops, fire dept, finance, admin/personnel, safety, contracting, recruiting, etc.

Then, space force will have to fight for budget allocations with the other services. I don't know if this will work out in their favor or not.
