Mine seems to be working okay. Cleaning cycle only. Although there doesn’t seem to be much difference between 7 and 10. 7 is kind of scary. Loud and seems like it might fall apart. I’m sure it’s fine though.

Blended margaritas tomorrow. I got the Bone
Daddy mix.

I don't know what the manual says, but I wouldn't run mine full speed with nothing in it. Seems to be a surefire way to cause problems.

One is not supposed to run it at any speed without something in it.
Been awhile but I think the suggest a 1/4” above the blades is the lowest volume to run it.

I may purchase a new one. We sent that one back. There was a burning smell as well. My wife doesn't mess round. By the time I saw the troubleshooting post, it was already a gonner.

If you are Costco member definitely buy it from there for the extra warranty.

My re-furbished model just crapped out today.
Noise, smell (electrical) and then smoke.
Back it goes, now, buy another at the higher price, buy another brand (Blendtech), use the old Oster and forget about it.

Dang. Maybe I should use mine more to see if it dies early. Need to find things to make.

After the initial hiccup, mine has been working fine. No more weird noise. I brought the blender in from the cold porch and fired it up about 30 minutes later so perhaps that contributed to the noise I heard when I first used it. It has a 3 year warranty so I'm not too concerned.

If my 1hp Waste-KANG can grind a Yak, the 2hp Vita-MAX can blend a Yeti. It laughs at frozen fruit.

Try a smoothie. Milk, frozen banana, frozen blueberries, peanut butter and a scoop of chocolate protein powder. You can make all sorts of variations.

I didn't see smoke on mine, but I definitely smelled it, smelled electrical. I was thinking maybe it was the grinding metal smelling, but really, it seemed electrical. The grind GRRR noise was very loud, and I'm not sure the blades were moving when that happened. Couldn't see them.

To prove to myself it was toast I left it run after I could smell the electronics burning, a minute or two later the smoke rose from the base and it stopped working. After sitting for about 1 hr it did work again.

Anyone know if these are FACTORY refurbished or 3rd Party refurbished???

something seriously wrong at Vitamix if they are FACTORY refurbished.
Not at all what I would expect from them. Anyone contacted them directly?

Hmmm, you're right. They're 3rd party refurbished for Amazon. Had I looked closer and noticed that, I probably would have passed.

Saw a couple of reviews of the vendor they're not looking too good. We do have 90 days to get a refund.

I suggest that you guys bail out while you can. These guys clearly moved some flawed goods. Wouldn't want to bank on them working long.

The "full diagnostic test" must not have included putting something in it and turning it on. Because that surfaced the problem in seconds. Razz

Amazon Renewed is your trusted destination for pre-owned and refurbished products that are inspected and tested to work and look like new. A Renewed supplier who is Amazon-qualified and performance managed, performs a full diagnostic test, replaces any defective parts, and thoroughly cleans the product. The products will have minimal to no signs of wear and no visible cosmetic imperfections when held 12 inches away. Products with batteries have at least 80% capacity relative to new and may arrive in a brown or white box with relevant accessories that may be generic.

Folks may want to take a breath.

First of all I think the 3rd party refurbishment claim is incorrect. The Amazon program says it uses authorized refurbishment partners. I don't see anywhere that is says these partners are not the OEM's. I think that the refurbishment was done by Vitamix. All the documentation that came with the blender references Vitamix, the 3 year refurbishment warranty is provided by Vitamix, the warranty registration is done online at Vitamix.com. The manual says to call Vitamix service department for any problems.

Also this refurbished product has a 4.5 star rating with 267 reviews on Amazon. Of all 267 reviews there were only 2 that mentioned a smell and 1 that says it caught on fire. We all know that a certain percentage of US consumers could screw up a wet dream, so all in all pretty good review results.

My wife has used ours every day once and some days twice since we got the unit and had no issues. So I would register the unit for the three year warranty, you have the 90 day Amazon return warranty, and not panic at this point.
