Angry Korean with a Dark Soul |
I have a Liberty 25 gun safe, and I am currently in process of moving from California to Las Vega, Nevada. I don’t think a standard mover is going to have the specialized equipment to haul it up a set of stairs. At least it wasn’t the case 20 years ago when I last moved. Has anyone here moved long distance lately and took a heavy safe? What outfit did you use? I’d appreciate any assistance.

Ask the standard movers first making it clear about the size of the safe. Mine were able to move mine although it wasn't without a bit of drama on moving day(s). Loader claimed the quote guy didn't advise him of the magnitude despite me being VERY clear about it during the quote.

Maybe get your regular movers to get it to the garage of the new house, and then get a Safe Mover in Vegas to finish the move.

I had a piano mover move a gunsafe once. They had all the equipment for it and were cheaper than a locksmith. -Scott -NRA Pistol Instructor -NRA Shotgun Instructor -NRA Range Safety Officer -NRA Metallic cartridge & Shotgun Reloading Instructor -MA Certified Firearms Instructor

I used a regular moving company. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

A neighbor just moved from TX back to Oregon. A few of us used golf balls under his safe and rolled it outside into a PODS. One story house on a slab. Took one threshold up in the garage and didn’t have issues. When we moved from NC to TX I sold the safe with the house and bought a new one here. But, one time we moved and I backed the pickup to the front steps and laid down several 2x10 and we slid the safe into the truck. At the new house I couldn’t get to the steps because of mud. So we slid the safe out of the truck on its back. Onto some golf balls and rolled it to the front door steps. Four 2x10s laid over the steps and four of us slid it up the steps onto and into the house. If you take the door off you remove a lot of weight. But you should call a safe company at the end of you move, pros usually have stair climbers for your dilemma "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. This is really a pretty good idea if you can offer it to the new buyer and get back most of your money. Put that money and the moving cost toward a new possibly bigger better safe at the new location.

I have a safe that weighs close to 1k lbs, that when getting moving quotes I was assured the movers would have equipment and expertise to move it upstairs in the new house. When we got to the destination, the movers dropped the safe in the garage due to safety reasons and lack of the right equipment. It cost me $500 dollars to have the safe moved by a professional safe moving crew and the moving company and the moving company reimbursed me because the safe was specifically listed in the contract. If I had to move it again, I’d offer to leave it and buy another bigger safe for the new location. My move was a corporate relocation nearly 18 years ago. _________________________ "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last” - Winston Churchil

Our own a1abdj might be able to provide you with the name of a safe company in your area who can assist you. He's done so in the past

Good movers can do it. Finding them is the challenge. And it's a risk for amateurs. My go-to FFL injured his hand pretty badly in one effort.

Fun answers. I had my sons ans a friend come bring them upstairs and out the back door. Hint: Move them at night, at least outside. I hate moving them where others can see them. The last safe I bought I made a special effort to arrange for an after dark move. The bastards didn't show and the next day, emphasis on the day, they showed up during rush hour so everyone could see it and their big "safe" company truck. God I hate those bastards. This last cycle, I used my just gave my sons the safes. Easier and both of them liked the idea. This cycle I don't have moveable safes. I just thought a 6" concrete wall would be better. I settled for a safe door. Unhappy ammo seeker

Partial dichotomy |
I'm in the process of moving....taking a lot longer to sell my house than I thought, but I contacted alabdj to get an approximate value of my Fort Knox safe to sell. I sold it to a local sporting goods store and used their safe mover to transport it. It worked out well for me. I'd considered leaving it for a new owner, but them maybe not wanting it was a big ? Since I had to carpet that room anyway, I got rid of it.
