Could say the same thing about New York State versus New York City exactly why I left.
At some point all that will be left of New York will be very rich Wall Street types, poor people and government workers
Replace Wall Street types with cronies, the same description could fit WDC and surrounds.
There are still a few normal folks left in the DC metro area (I will not call it the Dee-Em-Vee, ghetto slang for District-Maryland-Virginia). But, you are right, there are a substantial number who suck the govt. teat, and expect to be taken care of/get rich no matter how much they screw up their lives.

wait to get gas , until we are in Iowa.
I live in Missouri, but not far from the JB Bridge. We also have lots of cars with Illinois plates getting gas in Missouri.
I used to do that same thing, it's been 35 years but I frequently traveled across the JB bridge into Missouri.

RogueJSKI can understand why. I saw firsthand the jump in gas prices between Missouri and Illinois while traveling through there a couple months ago. I filled up just west of St. Louis for $3.15, and by the time I got across the river into Illinois just east of St. Louis, $4.35 was the going rate.
