Jack of All Trades, Master of Nothing |
So the other thread is going on the ones we hate to see lose, but what about the ones we take joy when they win? The San Diego Padres. Yes, they have sucked for a while now but they'll always be special to me. First MLB game I ever went to was the Padres and Dodgers at Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. My cousin Christopher was born in Balboa Naval Hospital. He was the youngest certified umpire ever in the state of Colorado and a life long Padres fan. When he was killed in Iraq, the Padres sent dirt from the pitcher's mound at Petco Park to be used at hie internment at Arlington. The following season they also gave the owner's suite to my family for opening day of the Rockies vs. the Padres. My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

The Dodgers - but with Vin Scully calling the game. Atlanta Braves: Hometown team. THE Ohio State University: Loved the Scarlet and Gray since I was a kid. Any team that plays Clemson: I live about 75 miles from Clemson University and you never saw anyone wearing Clemson gear until they started winning a few years ago. Fair weather fans. Any team that plays Georgia Tech: Most of the Tech fans I’ve met are pompous assholes. Just the truth. They’ve sucked so bad for so long I wonder... Do they still have a football team? ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

I love to see Clemson win. I’ve been a fan for years, even when they were terrible, even when they lost 5 in a row to their in-state rivals. I was a fan then, I’m a fan now. It’s good to see them win!

The San Jose Sharks. They've got a lot of heart but no stamina through the playoffs. It'd be great to see them reach the Stanley Cup. Baseball died for me when the Dodgers left Brooklyn. When I was a kid, my uncle lived in an apartment building close to Ebbets Field. We could go up to the roof and watch the games with binoculars. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

It's not you, it's me. |
I’ve played just about every sport at one point in my life, but never sat through a professional sports game in my life (I’ve tried and tried but can’t bring myself to give a shit) and I don’t care about watching college or professional sports (however I love the Olympics). I do like seeing the Philadelphia Eagles win, despite not really giving a shit during the season (I couldn’t tell you who’s on the team or who the coach is, despite living here and all my friends being Eagles fanatics). They just strike me as the perpetual under dog and I really love the scrappy persona of Philly teams.

It was Mercedes Benz who dumped a ton of money on New Orleans, with most of that cash, $60 mil, going to the Saints. Also, donations from around the world got N.O. back on it's feet. ********* "Some people are alive today because it's against the law to kill them".

It's not easy being me |
Our son-in-law graduated from Clemson. He's an over the top Clemson fan (he & our daughter are going to New Orleans to attend the game next week--OK by me, because grandma & I get to spend time with our grand-daughter. She'll be 1 on Jan. 23, & is growing like a weed!!) so our family have "sorta of" become fans of Clemson. Vanderbilt, because I grew up a fan, and my father and my wife both graduated from Vandy. Plus, I've worked two blocks from the edge of Vanderbilt's campus for 34 years now. It's been really great to see the success that Tim Corbin has brought to Vanderbilt's baseball program. They won the College World Series this past season, & previously won in 2014. Auburn, because I graduated from there. I was in school in the early-mid 80's when Charles Barkley & Chuck Person played basketball, & Bo Jackson led the football & baseball teams. War Eagle!! The Titans & the Predators, because they've been our pro teams in Nashville for 20 years now. And each team has had "moderate" success. Always hoping for a championship... _______________________________________ Flammable, Inflammable, or Nonflammable....... Hell, either it Flams or it doesn't!! (George Carlin)

NFL: I'd like to see every team win at some point. A simple example is the dynastic patriots compared to the fecal browns. I applaud personal and team excellence, and believe that each team should stand and fall on its own. But, there is something strange when decades transpire without success or with dominance. It doesn't happen like this in MLB. I guess I'm saying I hope every team and their fans enjoy success at some point, and believe the present NFL arrangement prevents this. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

NY Yankees, started following them back in 64-65 when I was 5 or 6 years old. The SC Gamecocks since 1992 when my family and I moved to SC. “There is love in me the likes of which you’ve never seen. There is rage in me the likes of which should never escape." —Mary Shelley, Frankenstein

I like to see the Ohio State Univ Baseball and Rugby team win. I played Rugby at OSU so there is always that soft spot for them. Even though I graduated from OSU, I am a die hard Texas AM fan. I just didnt have the money to go after I p**sed away a scholarship at OSU. Even then out of state tuition was a killer. Plus I wanted to play Baseball for the Univ (along with FSU, Univ of Texas, and OK State Unv) I like for any small college underdog to win: Liberty Univ, Shenandoah Univ (Just discovered this school and have been following them), Montana St, etc..

Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, and Celtics. I was born in Massachusetts, grew up in Rhode Island, and went to college in Maine, and Boston. I am a life-long Boston sports fan, even though I live in the land of the Marlins, Lightning, Magic, and DolphinsBucsJags. I like to see all of my team's win. Nationals, Redskins, and Capitals. The one team that means the most is my namesake. If your curious at all the numbers in my name also have meaning. 28 is Darrell Green and 81 is Art Monk. Coincidentally, my friend went out and got a personalized license plate that is my the exact same as my screen name (minus the i, I think). Back to why. As many here probably did, I watched the games with my dad. Every Sunday was an event. 16 days a year (hopefully more) were spent eating good home cooked meals watching the game and bonding. We knew every player, every stat, where they went to college, probably their favorite flavor of ice cream. We went to games together, that was like the normal Sunday, but turned up to eleven. Parking lot cookouts, not just your standard tailgating, it was good food and we went with big groups, so it wasn't just what you brought, it was a buffet of grilled meats, dips, and appetizers. The highs were so high and lows so low for just watching a bunch of people play a game. I looked forward to Sunday like no one else, and was sad every year when the season ended, even if it culminated in a Super Bowl victory. He's gone now, died in an accident, so I never got to day goodbye. Redskins games are one of my strongest memories of him, so no matter how bad they get or what a shit owner they have I will always cheer for ol' DC. I miss RFK Stadium so much, it was like family going to the games, between the people we knew from the tailgates to strangers you'd sit next at the game. Everyone was rooting for the same thing. Everyone had been Skins fans their whole lives, season tickets were passed down from one generation to the next. It's hard to explain. The feeling at FedEx Field is nothing the same, but it's engrained in me now, Daniel Snyder can't ruin that for me. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis
