I spoke to someone who knows the family of the Minneapolis trans mass shooter. According to this source, it was James (Jim) Allen Westman — not Mary Grace Westman — who was the most affirming of Robert (Robin)’s gender dysphoria. Jim is very liberal, as I saw on his social media before he deleted it. After the divorce, the couple’s five children allegedly looked to him for affirmation on choices their mother wouldn’t support.

“Mary Grace was very conservative and Jim was not,” the source says. She had been involved in pro-life activism, having given up her first baby (before the marriage) for adoption. “Because of this dynamic, the kids always went behind Mary Grace’s back to Jim for approval of doing things she didn’t approve.”

In the aftermath of the Annunciation Catholic Church mass shooting on Wednesday, Ms Westman (née Wilson), 67, has been ruthlessly vilified by mobs on social media because her signature appeared on the court paperwork that allowed Robert to legally transition as a minor. (In Minnesota, both parents typically have to consent to a child’s name change.) But the source believes Ms Westman was under pressure — from professionals, doctors and family — all warning her that unless she signed, her son would kill himself. This threat is a familiar line from mainstream trans groups: transition or suicide.

The online mob rage against Ms Westman grew as Minneapolis Police said she was refusing to make contact with them from her home in Naples, Fla. She also retained a criminal defense lawyer. Her home was visited by the FBI after the shooting, but no one appeared to be there, according to local media.

Mr Westman, 62, lives in Minneapolis and is a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) application developer for tech company Esri. The company is a world leader in developing software for digital maps. He remarried after the divorce.

“[Robert] was the youngest of five children and experienced a difficult divorce between his parents,” the source says. “Shortly after she signed the form for Bobby, she moved to Florida after he turned 18. She was heartbroken over all of this.”

The shooter himself admitted in his manifesto that his mother was not initially supportive, and he resented her for it.

“I remember one day, she said something like, ‘In the future you will look back and feel ridiculous about who you feel like you are inside. You will regret this,’” the shooter wrote in his manifesto. He also confessed that he had come to realize he’d been “brainwashed” into becoming trans. But by then, he wrote, it was too late to go back. “Gender and weed fucked up my head,” he wrote. “I wish I never tried experimenting with either.” For him, detransition would mean “admitting defeat.” His chilling conclusion: death before detransition.

MINNEAPOLIS — Malia Kimbrell, the mother of 9-year-old Vivian St. Clair, who was injured in the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting, on Thursday, Sept. 4, called for a ban on semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity magazines.

On Aug. 27, a shooter killed two children and injured 21 other people — 18 of whom are children — in a mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Several families, including those of the two children who were killed — 10-year-old Harper Moyski and 8-year-old Fletcher Merkel — have started to speak out and share their grief following the tragedy.

Vivian was shot twice in the back and once in the arm and has since been discharged, though bullet fragments will remain in her back. Her story has already been shared through a GoFundMe as the girl who made her way to the school from the church without noticing her bullet wounds.

“After several minutes of chaos and hiding under the pew, she followed her teacher to safety at the school," Kimbrell said Thursday at a news conference at Hennepin Healthcare in downtown Minneapolis. "It was there that her friend said to her, ‘Vivi are you OK? You have a hole in your back.’”

Kimbrell said that action is “our only hope” and said that while options like mental health funding are on the table, she will “settle for nothing less” than an immediate ban on semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity magazines.

“And I will get the names of any lawmakers who stand in the way of that happening,” Kimbrell said. “And I will invite you to come to my living room and insist that you hold Vivian's hand while we do her dressing changes each night, and she cries, the entire time, and you can look her in the eye, while you cleanse her bullet wounds, and you can tell her to her face why you are opposed to keeping her safe, why a semi automatic rifle is more valuable than her life.”

Vivian is also the young girl who a nurse — now known as Samantha Low, whose actions were widely reported — sat with in the CT scan, so Vivian wouldn’t be alone. Low said Vivian remained calm and poised, was able to talk about her dog and seemed “much older” than 9 years old.

“Staying with her was not bravery, it was instinct,” Low said Thursday. “As a mom myself, I hoped someone would do the same for my child, and I would do it again tomorrow without hesitation.”

At least 17 of the 21 injured have been discharged from hospitals. At least one child, 12-year-old Sophia Forchas , remains in critical condition, according to an update from HCMC Thursday afternoon.

Another child, who was originally believed to be uninjured, 10-year-old Weston Halsne, underwent surgery on Wednesday to remove a bullet fragment found in his neck and is expected to make a full recovery, according to a statement from his family.

Gov. Tim Walz is floating the possibility of a September special session to address guns, while mayors and Democratic lawmakers are calling for bans on assault weapons.

Kimbrell said she wanted to “warn” people if they think this won’t happen to their kids, to “think again.” She said the bullets going through the church’s stained glass window “didn't care whose parents were Democrats or Republicans.”

“Without action, we will be here again, mourning the loss of innocent lives and annunciation will be the community sending a bouquet of flowers to the next school," Kimbrell said. "We will write on the card ‘We get it, Love Annunciation,’ because that's what Uvalde did for us … Vivian and Lydia and Victor and all the others will be on CNN 15 years from now, recounting the horrific memories of their school shooting the same way Sandy Hook kids are doing now.”

I hope to never have to experience what she and her family and all victims and victims’ families have gone through…but refusing to see the true problem is itself, the problem.

^^^ It certainly wasn't everything else in his life that made his shoot the children; the guns made him do it.

You feel for the mother's loss; it was a tragedy that shouldn't have happened. But the gun didn't make him do it.

I saw a snippet of an interview with one of the gun stores that sold him the gun(s). The guy said he gave no bad vibes, gave the right answers to everything, and even joked some and was smiling.

And he also had a shotgun and a handgun.

The shooter also didn't "present as his true authentic self" for the visit, but rather looked like a dude with a pony tail.

On Thursday, The National Pulse reported that the Trump administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) is considering imposing restrictions that would prevent those undergoing gender transition or diagnosed with gender dysphoria from purchasing firearms. Additionally, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating the attack as an act of domestic terrorism and a hate crime targeting Catholics.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) has called for avoiding the “villainization” of the transgender community.

According to the WSJ article, the killer had a long history of mental illness issues and contacts with the police. Guns were removed from the house at one time, but returned. Who thought it was a good idea to allow him to have access to them? I still remember a story from my youth in which a man was calling for gun control because his known-to-be-insane wife used one of his guns to commit suicide. Even then I thought, “And I’m responsible for your negligence‽”

Sometimes that question must be given serious thought no matter what we believe about the right to keep and bear.

They were looking for a dangerous murderer who was obviously a dude but instead of giving an accurate description they opted to go far left and call him a woman in their BOLO. They cared more about pronouns than they did about actually finding the shooter.
