I just came home from the hospital after a 3 week stay. I had a heart attack, the ER I went to sent me to a local hospital/ICU where they stabilized me. Next morning the heart doctor told me unless u chose to do heart surgery, these heart attacks would happen sooner.

I decided to have the surgery, all went well. Previously, after the second heart attack it was found I had multiple blockages, so surgery was high risk. The doctor did double bypass on me.

I would have come home earlier, but my kidneys acted up. With previous kidney issues, they put me on dialysis. I had dialysis several times, my biggest fear was to have to be on dialysis permanently. Luckily my kidneys improved to where I was passing enough pee, they took me off dialysis. Best news ever.

I came home Tuesday. Kinda sore, and weak. I lost 15 lbs while in the hospital, the food was horrible, I lived on tomato soup and Ensure. They wanted me to go to rehab, but I wanted to come home.

The yard and landscaping is a mess. My wife is no well, she can mow, but can't do weeding, heavy physical stuff. I am restricted for quite a while doing any kind of activity like lifting. I do walk a lot but still give out. Yesterday my legs gave out, almost fell.

But all in all, feel glad to be here after all I've been through. Please, if you are approaching age 50 have a detailed heart examination. Catching heart problems early prevents many heart attacks.

I blame the incompetent heart doctor I went to for 10 years for the condition I got in to, of course I've switched doctors since.

Thanks all for your kind thoughts.

I was very fortunate to have an excellent heart surgeon. The hospital I was at, Lynchburg Centra , Cardiovascular, is becoming renowned for their heart surgery and care. Many people in Central VA go thereespecially for heart issues.

The treatment while I was there wase excellent. They kept me in ICU my whole stay, I couldn't ask for better nurses.. The nurses would even make milkshakes for me when the hospital food was inedible, which was all the time.

Get a copy of Dr. Stephen Sinatra's book, "The Sinatra Solution: Metabolic Cardiology".

He list four things to take to have a strong heart: CoEnzyme Q10, Magnesium, D-ribose, and L-carnitine.

Here is his website:

Good luck.

That's some history there. Glad it seems to be working out with lots of recovery. Fingers crossed. I only had one widow maker and that was enough for me! I believe there is some surgery down the road for me but waiting for signs of weakness before jumping into more surgery.

Take it easy. Don't jump back into things too quickly. Ask your network of friends for help with the yard stuff and anything else. Do the exercise rehab they recommend. My old man got the zipper. His old man got it twice. I'm trying to avoid it.

Glad to hear you made it. Keep putting one foot in front of the other.

I’d like to just say this: I agree about screenings. Get a nuclear scan and stress. Age 50 and up, get it done. Age 60+, get your butt in front of a good Cardiologist, if he says he thinks you don’t need, it go to another.

I’m lucky. At age 52 I was getting a routine yearly physical, Doc said my EKG looked weird. Handed me the paper strip and told me to go to his Referral Cardiologist immediately, now! I felt fine! 30 minutes later I’m face to face with Cardiologist, he looked at the paper strip and said it was fine, no worries. He gave me an EKG on his machine, said it looked fine. He poked and prodded and listened to my heart, said I seemed fine. He then asked if I ever felt any symptoms, answer no.

He asked if I’d ever had a stress test and nuc scan. No I have not. He said let’s do one in a few days. Ok. Got a call later from him, said I failed it.

I ended up, a few days later, with a Stent. My Widow Maker, Left Anterior Descending Artery, was 80% blocked. I was a walking ticking time bomb.

I say this to reinforce what you said, get tested. They don’t call it the Silent Killer for nothing. We all know seemingly healthy people who just die, no warning. Don’t screw around. Get tested.

I’m glad you made it, may God Bless you as He walks with you.

Don't sweat the small stuff. Everything is small stuff like the landscaping and such.

After my retina detachment surgery, I told everyone my post-op instructions given by the doctor. No lifting 20 pounds or more. No bending down. No housework for a year. I could however golf if I want to in about two months.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Glad you are on the mend. Take it easy, you can battle the weeds later in the year. Getting yourself better, is the thing you need now.
