I would imagine that many of those panic buyers who had never before owned a gun have started selling off their shooters to buy groceries, pay rent and the like. ____________________________________________________ "I am your retribution." - Donald Trump, speech at CPAC, March 4, 2023

I haven't been shopping too much for guns, just casually, but I have been shopping ammo. Ammo is not cheap yet, but it's improving. $0.27 - $0.31 for 9mm plinking, just under $0.50 for .45. 5.56 is in the $0.50 range down to $0.40 or so if you are willing to buy 1000 rounds. All are still a bit too rich for my blood, as bought tons when it was cheap. Production still seems to be an issue, however, as I went looking for .35 Remington for my lever gun, and it ranged from $60.00 - $100.00 for a 20 round box. Obviously the manufacturers are still pumping out the popular shooting calibers at full capacity, and not yet getting back to production that is balanced across the popular defensive calibers, but also includes hunting rounds and oddities. .22 LR is available, but still about 2x what it should be around here. I'd be looking forward to good buys from those who bought in panic and are now selling, except the only thing I really want is a Ruger Alaskan in .480, and I don't think many of the panic buyers bought those! It will be interesting to see how this thread goes. Shops around here seem to be well stocked with new stuff at reasonable prices, but the used counters haven't been full. Anderson AR’s are down to $399 and some 9mm is getting reasonable again.

I’ve been contacted by a few people recently asking if I wanted to buy any guns. So far it’s all trash that I wouldn’t even offer $5 for.

Ammo-wise, much more plentiful on store shelves & no purchase qty limits. Pricing is higher than pre-2020, but not significantly. Haven't been in the new gun market for a bit, so I don't have any price comparisons then to now. The Enemy's gate is down.

Used market’s definitely down from what it was a couple years ago, and even a year ago. FS2000 I just sold went for half of the top end I saw some go for this time last year. I have things I’ve sold that I regret waiting so long to do. Demand is down, people are hurting for cash. Good time to get into night vision if one wanted to, lots of “backup” and “loaner” units getting liquidated for good prices. I think if the economy continues the way it has been, it’s going to be salad days for folks with disposable income. ______________________________________________ Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.

I've been doing my part by buying! Only SIGs, mostly classic P-Series, at bargain prices. I'm all about used. A shop local to me had quite a few early-mid last year, but not much the past few months. I'm working on building up my slush fund for when I come across a deal.

I've bought about six classic P-series SIGs in the last year, all for good or excellent prices. I'm all stocked up there. I usually only buy ammo in 1000 rd lots or more and usually only when I find a free shipping promo, which are becoming more common. I just got a free shipping deal on 6300 rds of .22LR for $389. I split it with a buddy and that's probably enough for many years.

Hadn't thought about that but it makes sense. I worked with a guy who would pawn his tools regularly to get cash and then buy them back again. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Ignored facts still exist |
OMG, in Oregon sales are through the roof since we've been panic mode since Nov 8th due to a gun control ballot measure that got voted in. (measure 114, which has it's own thread) Everything that requires a "background check" has in short supply because everything got sold. To make matters worse, many of the FFL's who did transfers from out of state dealers stopped doing the transfers, or raised their prices. One FFL is charging $100 for a transfer now because the number of transfers were so high, and he just couldn't handle any more. so record breaking sales here by a longshot. .

Shoot Straight used to be a stop for me weekly to go through used inventory, I've picked up some deals over the years. They now take the used guns and list them on GB, and take them to the Gun Show Circuit that they bought out, so there aren't any in the cases anymore locally. They may be picking up more $ per gun on used but I wonder how many people like myself don't go back in as much anymore since the used are gone, which means I'm not being enticed by the new hotness items...

^^^ GB and gun(dot)deals are kinda bigger outlets than they were before for brick'n'mortar dealers. I've seen prices there that were lower than on the sellers' websites for a few pistols so maybe that's the new way to fish for additional sales without setting lower prices across the board? Online sales may be cheaper for the seller, but the differences can still be substantial depending on what you're shopping for. So far, from what I've seen, price drops are selective. The marginal stuff (off-brand ARs and cheaper striker-fired pistols, for example) have been anything from cheaper to on fire sale. Stuff that people buy and hold (like 9mm 226s) are no more available than before, and stuff that sells well (P365s) seem to have dropped in price only marginally from several months ago, if at all. As an aside, it seems to be a good time to buy imported pistols, but prices for imported rifles (at least the EBRs) still seem to be holding fairly steady.

From my corner of the world, the panic of self-protection is over and has been for a year or more. Yes there are slightly more now who are consigning guns or want to sell outright but they do not seem to be primarily the previous round of panic buyers, just the type who need cash. IMO some stupid prices for older Remingtons, and Marlins. New carry offerings with extra capacity and features generate some interest. Slug shotguns are depressed and may get worse. because of the new straight wall cartridge hunting regs here in NE. Some gun companies are going to have overcapacity, and it may be fun to shop sale prices at different points over this year. ------------------ The plural of anecdote is not data. -Frank Kotsonis

I've been monitoring G.B. prices on classic P-series Sigs recently and this has been my thinking as well. A L.N.I.B. example of a classic P-series Sig will still command a price equal to or slightly above N.I.B. current productions P-series (think Sig Legion prices). But the insane prices on what are obviously L.E. trade-ins have seemed to subside. I'm going to assume that we will see a slight uptick as people blow the return of their interest free loans to Uncle Sam (tax refunds). But I think we'll see a drop again as we get into the warmer weather and people's minds turn to other outdoor activities. I also frequently check out a board that is specific to Virginia and I still see what I consider to be high prices, but those guns usually sit for a very long time.

I went on GB to take a look at German 225's and prices have doubled since last time I took a look. I was like WTF? ____________________________ Everybody knows that the dice are loaded

I saw a Sig P322 for the first time ever the other day. They seem to have been selling before they even hit the case in part due to the ammo shortage. Primers - not so much.

Walmart and the local gun shops have plenty of ammo on the shelves but they are wanting a pretty penny for them. Primers are showing up now but they are twice maybe three times what they were several years ago. I haven't seen any significant increase in used gun sales, at least not around here. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

Pretty crazy in Oregon, background checks are very backed up. Bought a Sig 365 back in mid January. I stopped at the gun store first week of Feb to see how far along my background check was. The State Police who do the NICS in Oregon were just getting to applications submitted Dec 3 2022.

It has been awhile since I bought any classic P series guns and I was shocked. Especially the P228. What I used to buy at 650 is now 900 or higher. Same for the P225s I've seen. JEREMIAH 33:3

While that's true, you have to admit that nothing else out there for the same price is built with the same quality. You can never go wrong with the classic P-series SIGs and you can't outlive them.
