I went from an 8 to an XR and agree about missing the button about as much as I'd miss an extra gallon of water going over Niagara Falls.

To each his own I suppose. I think the Face ID is one of the best features Apple put on these phones. It really does Work flawlessly even in complete darkness. The light from the lock screen is enough for the camera and system to do it's thing, and you only need one free hand to open the phone. The one that's holding it. I had more trouble with the fingerprint reader in the home button. It was never 100% for me, and many times it took several tries to get recognition. I'm reminded of this when I use my iPad which uses this function.

And yes, the SE is a perfect fit for people who really just want a mobile phone and text.

Except for me the phone has to be directly in front of my face never could get it to work with my sunglasses. Regular glasses yes.
My phone sits in a mount in my work truck and it was a gigantic pain to unlock it in the mount.
Trying to use Apple Pay was awkward on many kiosk locations.
With the home button I have none of these issues and phone is fully unlocked before it is out of my pocket.
No taking the phone out of the mount and trying to type in a password to unlock it.

My wife also refuses to get on the ever-larger iPhone bandwagon, recently got her an iPhone 12 Mini which is roughly the same size as the iPhone 8/SE Gen 2 but with a little larger screen. She loves it

A Don't know what phone version you had these issues with, but I have none of the problems you articulate. Sunglasses... no issue, just make a saved image with sun glasses on. I did this; Sun Glasses off, Sunglasses on, reading glasses on, hat on w/o sunglasses, hat on with sunglasses. There's no extra charge for more instances. Then, just double click the side button and Apple Pay is good to go. In 3 years using my iPhone 11 none of this has ever been and issue. I don't mean disrespect, just giving a perspective from one that loves the face ID, and I'd actually pay extra for it over a home button/finger print reader.

Oh man. Apparently I’m eligible for a free iPhone 11 or a 13 for $200. I discovered this while fighting with T-Mobile over a SIM card they were supposed to mail me for my wife’s phone. I was hoping I could save a trip to the store.

Of course I learn this info the day after ordering a SE Gen 3 from apple. Eek Big Grin. I think I’m gonna just let my upgrade ride since it doesn’t expire and maybe use it for a SE Gen 4 in a few years. Hahaha. I love me that home button.

I was shopping for a new phone recently so I looked at the SE. Wow, I forgot how tiny they are. The screen looks the size of a postage stamp compared to the larger phones. I want the biggest screen I can possibly fit in my pocket. The price is appealing though.

Where does it go from here? They collected all you data, personal info, friends and family, track all your movements, then they got finger prints, now they have a face to go with it through photo recognitions. Just wondering what's next? A little port that takes DNA samples? Big Grin

For reasons of transparency and full disclosure, because of work I have an iPhone 11 and the SE at less than arms length 24/7. Roll Eyes
Which is why smaller is better on the other phone and why I know home button is better than no. Lot less ND's with the home button.

I have a Gen 1 I really should upgrade and saw your Gen 3 comment in para's thread. My phone has no trade value so Verizon wants $429 for a new Gen 3. Then I looked on Swappa and can get a mint 64GB Gen 2 with 100% battery for $226 shipped.

Decisions, decisions.
