I was pretty upset when this happened. Riding too fast at night is painful sometimes. I got off worse than the watch with quite a bit of rash but I was VERY lucky not to hit my head hard on the asphalt. That sucked but I am ok.

I am 100% loving the repairs. I went with something a bit different for the bezel, a big tooth, and I am really digging the the new flat lumed ceramic bezel insert.

Orange Seiko Samurai (reference number : SRPC07) after I Superman crashed off my scoot. Lots of rash on the bezel insert at 12, 3, 4, 6, 10 & just past 11 o’clock. The bezel was equally rashed up.

The ceramic bezel insert is fully lumed and matches the factory Seiko lume on the dial perfectly.

Yeah it does have a bit of a Doxa vibe going with that bezel.

P220 Smudge, I got the parts from Long Island Watch Link to their page . This project went a lot smoother than I was expecting.

I am still planning the build but I will likely use the bezel/bezel insert and unique dial on one of these new Seiko 5 sports watches. The blue is just odd in a good way, pics just don’t do it justice. That odd blue/purple draws your attention. The blue on the dial really POPS against the mostly black watch....it surprised me. The stealth on the other hand....It’s a bit more subdued.



I am planning on doing a temporary swap into a PVD Turtle like the one pictured below. It should be fun and keep me busy as I acquire more parts for the build/builds. The end goal is to eventually build a new watch out of both the blue and black/gray sports 5’s by using its complete movement, dial, hands and maybe even the factory bezel & bezel insert swapped over into a PVD Seiko Turtle case. I’d like to add a small lume pip into the triangle on both since it would not be hard or cost much money. I’m still not sure how I’m going to do the bezel.

I’ve recently discovered a few sources to basically build this watch case, crystal bezel etc from scratch. I am a little reluctant to install a crystal, I suppose with the right knowledge and tools it’s probably not too hard.

Question- is your Seiko watch a Seiko watch made for export or a Seiko watch that was made for the Japanese domestic market? One of my watch loving buddies locally gave me a long lecture about the differences between the Seiko watches for the export market that are assembled in Malaysia or in Singapore and watches made for the domestic Japanese market. He claims that the Japanese manufactured watches are superior as far as build quality and long term reliability is concerned. But, much as I like seeing pictures, I will continue to wear my Timex Expedition watch because the watch has big digital figures, which makes it easier for me to tell the time since I am slowly losing my sight.

sidss1, my Seiko 5’s are not JDM. I thought about spending the extra $115 to get a JDM stealth 5 sports which is identical to line except it has an English and Kanji day wheel but to me it just isn’t worth it. Being that these watches are destined to be modded extensively and maybe broken along the way being that it’ll be my first movement swap attempt I wanted to start small.

I have quite a few Seiko watches. The K1 vs J1 (J1 = JDM/ “Made in Japan“ on the dial debate is controversial. I like and own both and will continue to do so. Something to consider, JDM watches do command a higher price tag and resale value but in my experience with lots of JDM & non JDM Seiko watches the quality is all over the place. Unfortunately the JDM examples are not immune to the misalignment of chapter rings and bezel inserts. Overall the JDM examples do seem to be better/nicer with a better fit and alignment but these recent Seiko 5’s (prob made in Malaysia or Singapore) are just fantastic watches. Surprisingly good fit and finish and attention to detail.


What a difference a bracelet makes. This engineer II style bracelet works well I think with the big teeth of the bezel.

The Samurai is one of the best things Seiko ever did.

Snapping Twig, believe it or not Seiko did start making them quite similar to my Samurai. Now that said it is on Seiko’s 3,200 Euro ($3,793 USD) flagship MM300 diver.

Niiiiiiice!!! I’ve always wanted one of those. I have a baby MM200 (SBDC063) but it just isn’t the same.

How is the accuracy? I love how the MM300 is able to fly under the radar and appear to be an ordinary Seiko diver. Unlike Rolex and to some degree Omega that Marine Master 300 is not easily recognized by non watch enthusiasts as a watch that can go toe to toe with Rolex and Omega.
