The huge majority of the yellow vest protesters are middle aged, normal working French citizens, and they have "permanent" protests in nearly every corner of France. They are the French middle class who are being squeezed to death by taxes and everyday expenses and have finally had enough.

The Yellow Vest's are basically France's equivalent (as near as can be) to the Tea Party. As Balze pointed-out, they're largely middle-class, middle-age, and getting sick and tired of getting told how bad they are by the left and taken advantage of by the right.

When this first kicked off, weren’t there reports of the YV also wanting a higher gov mandated minimum wage? Seems like there were other demands that we would call socialist. I also assume that the average Frenchman is pretty socialist to start with. & They have allowed their country to be taken over by middle eastern “immigrants”. Bridget Bardot has been to court how many times over speaking out against them? & she’s a raging lefty.

How about instead of worrying about how we would react if this was occurring over here by different groups we instead focus on what is actually happening, where it is actually happening and who is actually doing it?
Why the need for hypotheticals all the time? There are a lot of differences between here and France and the political situation isn't a 1:1 comparison. Saw several back in 2012 when we visited.
Best one was in Scotland, several tires incinerated to cords, the post and camera melted. With probably 20 beer bottles strewn about.
