https://justthenews.com/govern..._campaign=newsletter The Justice Department on Tuesday charged two Chinese researchers with attempting to smuggle a fungus dubbed "Fusarium graminearum," into the U.S. which it claimed scientific research "classifies as a potential agroterrorism weapon." The two researchers, identified as 33-year-old Yunqing Jian and 34-year-old Zunyong Liu, were allegedly receiving funding from the Chinese government for their research, and were allegedly citizens of the People's Republic of China (PRC). The pair, who were supposedly dating, allegedly lied to U.S. officials about the fungus in Detroit last year, with Liu stating he did not know how the material ended up in his luggage. He later admitted to putting it in his bag and wrapping it carefully to avoid detection because he knew it was restricted, the department said, per ABC News. “The alleged actions of these Chinese nationals -- including a loyal member of the Chinese Communist Party -- are of the gravest national security concerns," U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgan said in a statement. "These two aliens have been charged with smuggling a fungus that has been described as a ‘potential agroterrorism weapon’ into in the heartland of America, where they apparently intended to use a University of Michigan laboratory to further their scheme." Jian has also been accused of lying to officials, and her electronics allegedly contained information describing her membership in and loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party. She was also researching the pathogen. The FBI said the fungus causes “head blight,” a disease of wheat, barley, maize and rice, and is responsible for billions of dollars in global economic losses each year. FBI Director Kash Patel also sounded the alarm in response to the charges, claiming it demonstrated a serious national security threat to the U.S. food supply. "This case is a sobering reminder that the Chinese Communist Party continues to deploy operatives and researchers to infiltrate our institutions and target our food supply, an act that could cripple our economy and endanger American lives," Patel told Fox News. "Smuggling a known agroterrorism agent into the U.S. is not just a violation of law, it’s a direct threat to national security. I commend the FBI Detroit Division and our partners at CBP for stopping this biological threat before it could do real damage."This message has been edited. Pre 9/11 research culture, this was people who didn’t feel like doing the paperwork. Very, very common. Now…. Worth looking at their research team/seeing what was going on/how dangerous was their method of transport/as a general rule, ChiComs cannot be trusted with quarantines, but quarantine with a crop disease may not be the same. (It takes a certain amount of morality to lock yourself in with a pathogen. Probably not the same thing if it can only hurt plants, but Communists have a bad record with pathogen control - even the Russians, who border on being culturally suicidal.)

Interesting that this has attracted such little attention thus far. I checked The Wall Street Journal site just now, and nary a mention. Not only is an attempt to introduce a biological pathogen into the country by enemy agents an escalation of the continuing war we’re engaged in with China, but it also makes it obvious that the PRC has an active biological warfare program which should lead to the question of what else are they prepared to do. The next product of a Chinese lab may well have people rioting in the streets to get their jabs. ► 6.0/94.0 To operate serious weapons in a serious manner.

Another Chinese scientist — from Wuhan — charged with smuggling illegal biological material into US https://nypost.com/2025/06/09/...al-material-into-us/ A Chinese researcher allegedly tried to smuggle biological materials into the US from Wuhan and lied to the feds about the secretive scheme. Chengxuan Han was arrested Sunday after landing at the Detroit Metropolitan airport on a flight from Shanghai, according to charging documents. She was charged with smuggling goods into the US and making false statements. Han is the third Chinese scientist to be accused of smuggling biological materials into Michigan in recent weeks. Upon Han’s arrival to the US, border officers discovered Han sent four packages that “contained biological material related to round worms” from China, according to court documents. The packages, which were sent in both 2024 and 2025, were addressed to individuals associated with a laboratory at the University of Michigan. However, Han lied to officers and said she didn’t send packages to members of the Michigan lab, according to court documents. She also claimed the packages contained plastic cups, rather than petri dishes. When the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations grilled Han, she admitted to shipping the biological materials to the lab from her research as a Ph.D. student from the College of Life Science and Technology in the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Wuhan, according to court documents. Investigators also discovered that Han deleted the content of her electronic device three days before she landed in the US. “The alleged smuggling of biological materials by Chengxuan Han is a direct threat to public safety and national security, and it severely compromises the integrity of our nation’s research institutions,” said Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office, in a statement Monday. “I applaud the relentless efforts of the FBI Detroit Counterintelligence Task Force, working in close coordination with U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations and ICE Homeland Security Investigations Detroit. The FBI in Michigan will aggressively pursue anyone who seeks to harm our country and will deploy every available resource to defend the United States and protect our communities,” Gibson added. Han was denied a visa to travel to the US on two separate occasions in March. In one of her attempts to obtain a visa, Han “could not clearly answer basic questions about herself or her research,” according to court documents. An offer letter from the University of Michigan stated that Han was invited to be a visiting scholar at the lab. Wuhan is the central Chinese city where COVID-19 emerged before it spread into a global pandemic. _________________________

China is our enemy. We need to deport every single ChiCom student and confiscate every square inch of land purchased by them. What sane country would educate their enemy and allow it to own its land?

Several years ago China abruptly expelled a friend and his family on a few days’ notice after they were there for several years. Although their “mission” was supported by their church here, they were helping people with disabilities and were very careful to avoid any religious proselytizing as part of their activities. Many other Americans were expelled about the same time, and as I recall virtually no one in the US other than those directly associated with the missions batted an eye over the Chinese government’s actions. The people expelled certainly weren’t given any opportunity to protest their expulsions, and, “Due process? What’s that? Here’s your due process: Get out now and be happy we don’t throw you in prison until your idiot leaders pay us a few billion in ransom to get you back.” China is at war with us* and their nationals should be treated as what they are: Enemy aliens. * And their warlike activities are far more serious than anything the Evil Empire did during Cold War I. ► 6.0/94.0 To operate serious weapons in a serious manner.
