NYPD discovers rope
A new "secret weapon".

They can now lock agitated subjects in a room (with an inward opening door). I guess handcuffs and a baton would not work

Gee golly, what WILL they think of next?

From the article: "Rope only works to secure doors that open inward." Anyone got a pencil, I wanna write that shit down so I don't forget it.

They are high if they think I'm going to stand in front of a door struggling to keep it shut while a deranged individual with who knows what is on the other side.

Well that rope ain't the real deal unless it's autographed by Smullet. Just sayin'....

When we were kids and playing around, I locked my brother in our room with the rope method. I tried locking him in the basement with some books and a fire extinguisher to block the outward swinging door. That didn't end well.

Dios mios! They're going to have to upgrade when they figure out that 550 paracord is just as effective but lighter and easier to carry. Probably figure it out soon after they figure out 12 lb triggers are more dangerous to innocent bystanders than stock triggers.

The NYPD spent $114K on rope to hold people at bay until back up arrives.

How many officers were involved in the 6 hr stand off noted in the article, how much did it cost them for that time, and how many others had deficient police service during that 6 hours?

I can just hear small town America 911 now. "I'm sorry ma'am, I know a guy is trying break in and rape you, but I only have 4 officers on duty today and they are all busy with a guy who is upset and might be armed so they tied his door shut and are waiting for him to calm down.... can you hold?"

I wonder when we’ll see our first instance of an officer being shot with a length of rope in his hands instead of the right tool for the job.

"to avoid having gun-toting officers, perhaps only lightly trained in dealing with such situations"

So they are saying the NYPD officers are only lightly trained? Boy, that's a statement to use in court one day....

The article also mentions the use of gloves from Home Depot to protect ones hands from the rope.

How long until we hear the cries that using rope is "racist?"

Don’t forget that we’re talking about NYC. Cops don’t matter. It’s only the lives of the criminals that have to be safe.

Well, they should adjust their frame of reference and think like sailors and call it a line

After the first few crazy people commit suicide while they are trapped in some closet or other confined space, this clever little discovery will quickly disappear in favor of actual police work.

Dispatcher: "911, what's your emergency"

Miley Cyrus: "Billy Ray is distressed I'm a whore and he wants to do harm."

Dispatcher: "Help is on the way with 5 1/2 feet of rope to keep Billy Ray locked up with y'all until more help arrives that knows what to do about Billy Ray."

Miley: "Uhh....nevermind, I'll just go get Hannah Montana to kick his ass."

Dispatcher: "I'm sorry ma'am, you called us, we have to do something, police are on their way to make sure he stays locked up with you until Homeland Security arrives so he doesn't pop out and say 'boo' to Officer Dano and get hurt."

Miley: "Okay, fine, but why only 5 1/2 feet?"

Dispatcher: "Well, we fear that if we use 6 or more feet, he might be able to pull himself out of a grave and we'd have to call the Ghostbusters again."
