Looks like mine are on the list. Guess I'll call the pharmacy.

Looks like there is some concern over a possible cancer causing agent in the batches.

WTF! Got to stop by the pharmacy again.

Admittedly, I do not know how the FDA does testing and I can’t help but wonder. Is all Losartan contaminated and they just haven’t gotten around to testing every batch OR does this happen once in a while to random batches during production?

From what I took away from the article, all Losartan has the contaminate, they are just pinging the batches that are testing higher than allowed. Someone wasn't paying attention during production?

They've been recalling various lots of this for what seems like a year now. I take this, and keep dodging the bullet, but how are they continuing to make/release bad batches?

Same here, haven't had an issue with my batch but my comfort level is very low with this stuff now.

I just checked and mine isn't included in the recall. Thanks for the heads up.

I ran into my cardiologist this afternoon at the Y.

I asked him, he told me to call his office and have them send a script to my pharmacy for Candesartan.

I've been on, in this order: Valsartan, Losartan, Omesartan, Candesartan, and most recently Losartan again.

The Omesartan pills smelled like rotten eggs to me. I refused to take them after the 1st day.

Seems to me if it ends in "sartan" they all seems to have issues.

Good luck to you all.

Sandoz issued a recall today for Ranitidine 150mg and 300mg capsules. The recall is for the contaminant NDMA (N-Nitrosodimethylamine).

It’s been quite a number of years since I’ve had HazMat chemistry.
What’s N-Nitrosodimethylamine ?

I would like to hear from SHUGART on this matter. Lots of companies make these drugs, and lots of people take them. Only certain lots seem affected.

Not Shugart, but I am a pharmacist. From what I’ve read, it looks like these impurities are from the manufacturing process. Possibly from companies reusing solvents or other product in the process. If only certain companies are doing this or only certain lots are documented to having reused that product or solvent, that could be one explanation. See my post with the link to an article.

Hard to believe and sad to report that nearly 80% of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) found in all medicines, drugs, etc., worldwide, come from China. The vast majority of the drugs themselves are made either in China or India.
The United States hasn’t manufactured penicillin since 2007! Since the year 2000 we even let them supply he ascorbic acid for vitamin C. We don’t even produce that anymore.

The blood pressure med valsartan has been recalled a few times recently (API sourced from China) found to be contaminated with carcinogenic impurities.

This is scary stuff! I’m not comfortable at all with anything made in China, let alone medicines we all depend on at times.

Ran the list today at work. Only had one lot batch on the recall list. Lots of generic drugs made in the third world.
This has become a recurring issue.
