What is it like to vacation there? Thinking about a week of kicking back. Thank you.

It is very nice for the beaches and the climate, but the food costs are double what you pay here. Twenty years ago, a Hot Dog was $8. I don't know if they offer all-inclusive, but if they do, at least you know what the trip will cost in advance.

We were there in 2012. The beaches were nice. The city was pretty dirty, and the locals were very aggressive sellers. If you didn’t buy shit from them, they were rude. It was one of the less desirable places we visited in the Caribbean. Most of the food we ate was average.

It’s a much farther trip, but St. Maarten is the most amazing place we travelled to in the Caribbean. Beaches were the best. People were amazing. We really liked everything about that place. It is by far the best place I have ever vacationed.

Considering the crime situation in Nassau and Freeport, if it were me, I would pick a different place to vacation.

Here's the link to the State Department Travel Advisory.

If you want to go to the Bahamas, check out Bimini, it’s much nicer and more laid back than Nassau.

I've retired from flying now, but back when I was active, I made dozens, maybe hundreds of trips to the Bahamas.

Nassau is a tourist city.

If you want to kick back, as you wrote in the opening post, take a look at one of these two. I have stayed at both of them and they're both great.

Without knowing WHAT you want to do, it's impossible to advice. I've spent tons and tons of time at all the Bahamian islands as well as the Carribbean. Probably spent around 2-3 weeks in Nassau/Paradise island just this year.

Atlantis is nice, has very nice pools, waterpark and a beach. Food is expensive and hard to get in to restaurants. Carmine's is REALLY good, Graycliff is excellent on Nassau, etc. To me Nassau is about a 3 day island.

I would recommend Hope Town/Elbow Cay. Great restaurants, beautiful beaches, lighthouse you can walk up, fly in Marsh Harbor take the ferry across. Can also take the ferry to Marsh, then to Guana Cay for the Sunday pig roast at Nippers. The Ferry's are cheap and run every hour like a taxi cab. Need a golf cart, elbow cay rentals has good ones.

Another option IF you are the exploring type would be Staniel Cay, fly over on watermakers air from Fort Lauderdale. Staniel Cay yacht club has packages that include meals, a 17' boat, snorkeling gear, kayaks etc. Can snorkel thunderball cave, run up to Compass Cay and swim with the sharks, absolutely breath taking water.

IF I was going to spend a week anywhere it would probably be on St. Maarten.
