Firearms Theft / Fire Insurance
How are SigForum members insuring their firearms collection against theft and fire?

I'm in the process of purchasing a home and with it comes a new home owners policy. My collection may or may not Wink exceed the limits of a standard policy.

Thanks!

If you are a member of the "gasp!" NRA, they have a membership benefits page, one being firearms insurance.

You could also ask your agent if he sells a separate policy for, or if, the company you select has a rider for additional firearms coverage...

My agent is already working up an additional articles policy to supplement the home owners. However, I always like to price shop this stuff. Just because I'm happy with my insurance company for home and auto, doesn't mean they're the best or cheapest for specialty items.

I use Collectibles Insurance Services. Their prices are reasonable, but I have never made a claim.

Separate policy covers my collection, just like the jewelry Mrs.. Mike has.

You might find like I did the cost per $1,000 for separate rider is not worth the money.

I have used Core-Vens for years. They are competitive in price and only ask you to itemize list items over a certain amount of value. I have never had to make a claim with them but I am satisfied with the coverage and the rates.

If you have USAA, they will insure firearms for fire, thief, loss regardless of where they are, home, car, traveling, etc. They place these in the same category as watches, etc. and are not part of your overall deductible which is usually a percentage of your home's value.
You need to provide and insure each firearm for a specific value and the rates are low.
Hope this helps.
