Little disappointed with the lack of equipment knowledge of the guy at the rental place. All I got was a blank state when I asked him if it works better if the bodies are frozen, partial frozen, or fresh.

My wife sent my college boy to pickup a few things from WalMart. I asked him in a text to pick up a gallon of bar oil for the chainsaws. I even gave him the aisle to look in and this is what he came back with:

I have the machine for a week. Both my boys have a friend up, so I've got 4 teenage boys to help me get things cleaned up. I'm running the saws and they're feeding the beast. I could have just had the bar oil delivered, but that would have been an extra day. I thought I was specific enough, but no, college boy just grabbed something in a bottle from the aisle I said and called it good.

The day before, I had high school boy look up on his phone the right oil to gas ratio for the saws. He then watched me pour a gallon of gas from the 6 gallon jug into the one gallon jug, measure the right amount of oil, pour that oil into the one gallon jug, and mix it up. The next morning, I go to fill one of the saws and find the 1 gallon jug empty. High school boy dumped it into the ATV.

High school boy and his buddy are trying to cut trails in the woods. He's telling my about "Phase 4" of his plan. I'm thinking that's great and I'm glad they are having fun doing some physical activities, but there's actual work that needs to get done. Let's call it "Phase 0".

I’m sure you can get a gallon of bar oil at the nearby dealership, maybe $14+ or so.

I have ‘winter’ weight, and regular. There are times when I have relatively clean drain oil, months not hours type change. With that I mix with my winter weight bar oil.

Way back in the day, engine drain oil was used, more frowned upon now.

Okay, I read the title and just knew I was gonna see a wood chipper, I just wasn’t sure what I was gonna see on the ground.

The local dealer is a far go from here; about $8 in diesel fuel round trip. We get ours money’s worth out of free delivery up here with Prime, WalMart+ and Sam’s Club Plus. I used up some partial quart containers of motor oil I had.

Fresh is best, I'm told. Gotta watch the heads, though-the can get stuck in the chute and if not, they tend to bounce around and not get fully chipped. We're talking about lettuce, right?

Seriously, I wish I had rented this one in the first place. I rented a 7" one for a weekend a few weeks ago. That one slowed and had trouble with 4” stuff. I have yet to slow this one down.

Got most of the chipping done today. We finally got it to bog. Gotta clean up the shooting range tomorrow and return the machine.

I am more of an excavator and burn pile kind of land thining/clearing operation myself. But this looks like it could be productive on a smaller scale. Glad you had some help of sorts.

Come on! I already have tractor envy and now excavator envy on top of that. I thought about trying to burn it, but I know zip about it. I’ve never seen it done up here in Northern Michigan and I’m assuming there’s a reason why. The last thing I need is to be responsible for recreating The Metz Fire of 1908:
